Look for Ask Matt columns on many Tuesdays and Fridays.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Does_%E2%80%98Young_Sheldon_Dress_Older_than_Grown-Up_Sheldon\"><\/span><strong>Why Does \u2018Young Sheldon\u2019 Dress Older than Grown-Up Sheldon?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>: I\u2019m a longtime fan of both <em>The Big Bang Theory<\/em> and <em>Young Sheldon<\/em>. On <em>Big Bang<\/em>, Sheldon always dressed like a 12- or 13-year-old with his character T-shirts, etc. On <em>Young Sheldon<\/em>, he dresses like an adult. Did I miss an episode where they account for when the transition h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened? \u2014 <em>Carol<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Roush: <\/strong>I love this observation, and if they\u2019ve addressed it explicitly, I missed it \u2014 or I\u2019ve forgotten. But I do have a (pardon the expression) theory about this. I see the young Sheldon Cooper as trying to project a precocious maturity on par with his intellect in his wardrobe, hoping to appear adult and not childish, oblivious to how that makes him look to others. (Social cues will never be his strength.) By the time we meet the older, though not exactly mature, Sheldon on <em>The Big Bang Theory<\/em>, he no longer has anything to prove and can be more his true self, indulging in childlike pursuits and obsessions \u2014 including sartorial choices from comic-book T-shirts to wildly colored socks \u2014 in a way he never could as a kid.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Gives_with_The_Good_Fights_British_Invasion\"><\/span><strong>What Gives with <em>The Good Fight<\/em>\u2019s British Invasion?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Question: <\/strong>I could not help noticing that there are a few British actors on <em>The Good Fight<\/em> speaking with an American accent \u2014 as well as British guest stars who don\u2019t. Is this because <em>The Good Fight<\/em> is popular in England? \u2014 <em>Vera<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Roush:<\/strong> This isn\u2019t so much about the show\u2019s overseas popularity (about which I know little) as it is about American producers\u2019 proclivity to hire British, and just as often Australian, actors to fill key roles, typically hiding their accents effectively or adopting new ones (see Kate Winslet in HBO\u2019s recent <em>Mare of Easttown<\/em>). This is nothing new, but <em>The Good Fight <\/em>has been there from the start, with Rose Leslie and <em>The Good Wife<\/em> transplant Cush Jumbo, joined later by guest stars including Michael Sheen, Hugh Dancy, and most recently, Australian\/Zimbabwean actress Charmaine Bingwa as the upstart first-year associate Carmen Moyo, who\u2019s playing a major role in current storylines.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Saying_Goodbye_%E2%80%94_Though_Not_Really_%E2%80%94_to_Bosch\"><\/span><strong>Saying Goodbye \u2014 Though Not Really \u2014 to <em>Bosch<\/em><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Question: <\/strong>I would like to know why Amazon Prime Video is ending the <em>Bosch<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a>. There is plenty of material from the books to continue this great series with existing characters and additional new characters. <em>Bosch<\/em> is the primary reason I signed up for this streaming service in the first place. I say more <em>Bosch<\/em>! Don\u2019t end this great series I love to watch. \u2014 <em>Stephen D<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Roush:<\/strong> Here\u2019s some good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>. <em>Bosch<\/em> may be over on Amazon Prime Video, but a spinoff version will continue on Amazon\u2019s free streaming service IMDb TV. The streamer never really gave an explanation for why they chose to end <em>Bosch <\/em>after seven seasons, making it Amazon\u2019s longest-running series (and first original drama). That\u2019s an unusually long run for a streaming series so may have been financially motivated, which may also have led to jump-starting the franchise with a spinoff focused on Bosch, now retired from the LAPD, working as an investigator for lawyer Honey \u201cMoney\u201d Chandler (Mimi Rogers), while his daughter Maddie (Madison Lintz) presumably pursues her own career within the police department. Looking forward to this.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"More_Thoughts_on_Lovecrafts_Cancellation\"><\/span><strong>More Thoughts on <em>Lovecraft<\/em>\u2019s Cancellation<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Comment:<\/strong> A follow-up on <em>Lovecraft Country<\/em>\u2019s cancellation: HBO likely declined to contemplate a second season because series creator Misha Green was on the verge of signing a multi-year overall deal with Apple. \u2014 <em>Michael B<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Roush:<\/strong> That deal, announced late last week in the wake of HBO\u2019s cancellation, could have been a factor. But this sounds more like a case of a creative parting of the ways because if HBO truly believed in the project going forward, they\u2019d have stayed in business with Misha Green, the way ABC and FX continue to air ongoing projects from their former top producers, Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy respectively, even after both jumped to Netflix with lucrative deals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Comment: <\/strong>In regards to a second season of <em>Lovecraft Country<\/em> and <em>The Outsider<\/em> on HBO, both of these were based on stand-alone novels in which both series cover the complete storyline. In each cases there were no follow-up books. How can you produce a second season without the literary interpretation? Both books were extremely awesome, with HBO\u2019s versions adding things to the storyline that took away from the story, making it less pleasing. \u2014 <em>William S<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Roush:<\/strong> While it\u2019s always hard for an adaptation to live up to a book lover\u2019s expectation, there is no reason why these shows\u2019 producers, and HBO, couldn\u2019t have developed new stories with these characters and premises, using the books as a jumping-off point. There\u2019s always the potential for diminishing returns if you milk something beyond its expiration date, but with <em>Lovecraft <\/em>and <em>Outsider<\/em>, there\u2019s an argument that a good storyteller could have run with these high concepts, great characters and actors, for at least a second season.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Who_Are_These_Fers\"><\/span><strong><em>Who Are These F***ers?<\/em><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Question: <\/strong>Please, please explain the relationships on <em>Kevin Can F**k Himself<\/em>. Every time I think I have them figured out, I get confused again. All I\u2019m sure of is that Kevin and Allison are married to each other, and I think the older gentleman is Kevin\u2019s dad. Is Patty Kevin\u2019s sister? Is Neil Patty\u2019s husband? Kevin\u2019s brother? Maybe it was all explained and I missed it. Help, please. Thank you. \u2013 <em>Bertha<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Roush:<\/strong> You\u2019re welcome, though personally, I hope this season is the last we see of any of them. For the record, Pete (the older guy) is indeed Kevin\u2019s dad, Neil is Kevin\u2019s BFF and Patty is Neil\u2019s sister, the couple\u2019s neighbor.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"And_Finally_%E2%80%A6\"><\/span><strong>And Finally \u2026 <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Question; <\/strong>Why oh why do shows like <em>Lisey\u2019s Story<\/em> on Apple TV+ have such dark scenes?? I realize they\u2019re aiming for mystery, horror and fear, but most of the time \u2014 actually, all of the time \u2014we can\u2019t tell who\u2019s in the scene, where they\u2019re at or what\u2019s happening. I often have to refer to an online synopsis to get the gist of what happened and to whom. I read your Q&amp;A\u2019s all the time and have never heard you address this problem. \u2014 <em>SJ<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Roush:<\/strong> I guess it\u2019s been a while since I\u2019ve addressed it, but next to the issue of blaring background music on TV shows, dark and underlit camerawork is probably the #2 complaint in my mailbag. I watched what I could stand of <em>Lisey\u2019s Story<\/em> (one of my least favorite Stephen King books, an unpopular opinion) via an advance screener on my laptop, and I do remember that the scenes in the fantasy universe of Boo\u2019ya Moon (which makes me cringe just to type it) were hard to see what was happening. In some cases maybe just as well, but directors of photography for TV really do need to remember that not everyone has state-of-the-art TVs that effectively transmit these dim and dark scenes. Moody is one thing, murky to the point of opaque is another.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s all for now.
