Using Facebook data, the engineer reportedly tracked her down at her new hotel and confronted her.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" alt=\"Picture of hooded man in silhouette\" class=\"wp-image-18800023 lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/hacker-spy-001.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=300 300w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/hacker-spy-001.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=640 640w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/hacker-spy-001.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1280 1280w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/hacker-spy-001.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/hacker-spy-001.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=2000 2000w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Facebook security reportedly warned that many privacy invaders fell through a crack.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In another case, an engineer reportedly\u00a0used Facebook data to find out that a woman he was romantically interested in regularly visited Dolores Park in San Francisco, then used the information to go there and find her with her friends.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of engineers who abused private information were men who looked up women they were interested in but did not confront them in person, according to the report, which is an excerpt from an upcoming book by New York Times reporters Sheera Frankel and Cecelia Kang.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While 52 employees were fired for such transgressions in 2014 and 2015, Facebook\u2019s then-chief security officer Alex Stamos reportedly warned that hundreds of others may have slipped by unnoticed.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was allegedly upset when he found out about the widespread abuse of user information \u2014 and asked why no one else at the company had thought to tighten engineers\u2019 access to such data.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Zuckerberg himself had designed the company\u2019s data access system and refused to change it as the company grew, according to the report.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt various times in Facebook\u2019s history there were paths we could have taken, decisions we could have made, which would have limited, or even cut back on, the user data we were collecting,\u201d one longtime Facebook employee told Frankel and Kang. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut that was antithetical to Mark\u2019s DNA,\u201d the source said. \u201cEven before we took those options to him, we knew it wasn\u2019t a path he would choose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve always had zero tolerance for abuse and have fired every single employee ever found to be improperly accessing data,\u201d a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement. \u201cSince 2015, we\u2019ve continued to strengthen our employee training, abuse detection and prevention protocols. We\u2019re also continuing to reduce the need for engineers to access some types of data as they work to build and support our services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another bombshell <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/07\/08\/business\/mark-zuckerberg-sheryl-sandberg-facebook.html\">excerpt<\/a> from the book published last week in the New York Times said that Zuckerberg and Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg\u2019s relationship soured during the Trump era because Sandberg\u2019s Obama administration connections were suddenly useless.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hours after that report was published online, Zuckerberg and Sandberg conveniently strolled in front of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> cameras at the Allen &amp; Co. Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho.
