Sacha Baron Cohen is suing a Massachusetts company for using his popular \u201cBorat\u201d character and \u201cIt\u2019s nice\u201d catchphrase to sell marijuana, a product he doesn\u2019t use.<\/p>\n

The British comedia<\/a>n claims cannabis seller Solar Therapeutics failed to seek his permission before slapp<\/a>ing an image of Borat \u2014 the bumbling Kazakh broadcaster Cohen played in two Hollywood flicks \u2014 on a busy highway billboard. <\/p>\n

The actor, the lawsuit says, \u201chas never used cannabis\u201d because he \u201cdoes not believe it is a healthy choice.\u201d Plus, he is \u201chighly protective\u201d of his image and has never allowed the Borat character to appear in advertising.<\/p>\n

Cohen \u201cbelieves such advertising would weaken his credibility as an actor and social activist,\u201d said the suit, adding that the actor once turned down a $4 million offer to appear in a car commercial.<\/p>\n

The Massachusetts federal court lawsuit, filed by Cohen and his Please You Can Touch company, claims copyright infringement, false advertising and misappropriation of rights of publicity. <\/p>\n

The suit, which claims $9 million in damages, includes as proof a photo of a billboard with Cohen dressed as Borat holding two thumbs up. Next to the image of Borat\u2019s is his catchphase \u201cIt\u2019s Nice!\u201d along with a plug for the company\u2019s Somerset location and the words \u201cHappy 4\/20,\u201d a reference to the marijuana holiday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout permission of any kind, the Defendants deliberately featured the portrait, picture, image, likeness, and persona of Mr. Baron Cohen and his \u2018Borat\u2019 movie character in a commercial billboard on a busy interstate highway in Massachusetts, to advertise the sale of the defendants\u2019 cannabis products,\u201d the suit says.<\/p>\n

A rep for Solar Therapeutics told The Post that the company is aware of the allegations made by Cohen, adding: \u201cUpon receipt of the cease and desist letter from Mr. Cohen\u2019s legal counsel Solar immediately requested that the sign company remove the billboard in question.\u00a0As there is an active case before the court, we have no further comment at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The suit notes that Cohen mocks \u201cstoner culture\u201d via his \u201cAli G\u201d character, which is separate from his \u201cBorat\u201d character, and says that he would never get entangled in supporting a product he deems as \u201ccontroversial.\u201d<\/p>\n

The suit says that Cohen, an observant Jew, doesn\u2019t not want to be \u201cinvolved\u201d in a \u201cheated controversy among the Orthodox Jewish community about whether cannabis can be used under Jewish traditions, customs and rules.\u201d<\/p>\n

The suit comes on the heels of the satirist\u2019s high-profile mockumentary \u201cBorat Subsequent Moviefilm,\u201d which was released last year on Amazon Prime Video. The movie was a hit, but Cohen has said it will be his last Borat film, citing dangerous moments like crashing a Second Amendment rights rally in Washington state.<\/p>\n

Cohen also nabbed his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as activist Abbie Hoffman in \u201cThe Trial of the Chicago 7.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
