Technically, he has\u00a0<em>two<\/em> new movies on the way, but we\u2019re only here to talk about one of them \u2013\u00a0<strong><em>The Last Duel<\/em><\/strong>. Based on a true story, and the book by\u00a0Eric Jager, Scott\u2019s new movie finds him bringing audiences to\u00a014th-century France for a duel of knights, honor, and revenge. I\u2019ve rounded up what you need to know about\u00a0<em>The Last Duel<\/em> below.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Last_Duel_Release_Date_and_Where_You_Can_Watch_It\"><\/span><strong>The Last Duel Release Date and Where You Can Watch It<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post --><em>The Last Duel<\/em> is due out on\u00a0<strong>October 15, 2021<\/strong>. It will be exclusive to theaters. Like so much else these days, that could always change. For now, though, you can bank on this one being a strict theatrical release. You can also probably expect it to play some fall festivals, like TIFF or Telluride (that\u2019s just a guess on my part, but I think it\u2019s a good guess).<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_The_Last_Duel\"><\/span><strong>What is The Last Duel<\/strong><strong>?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>The Last Duel<\/em> is an adaptation of the non-fiction historical book\u00a0<em>The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France<\/em>\u00a0by Eric Jager. It focuses on the story of knight\u00a0Jean de Carrouges and\u00a0squire Jacques Le Gris, who started as friends (or at the very least, friendly acquaintances) and became enemies. The rivalry was furthered when Jean de Carrouges\u2019 wife\u00a0Marguerite accused Le Gris of rape. As a result of this, the two men entered into a duel \u2013 the final duel to be sanctioned by\u00a0governing powers. And a lot was riding on the duel, because if Le Gris won, that would \u2013 as far as the laws of the time were concerned \u2013 effectively declare Marguerite to be a liar, and she would\u2019ve been sentenced to death.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Last_Duel_Synopsis\"><\/span><strong>The Last Duel Synopsis<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The only synopsis we have at the moment is brief: \u201cIn 14th-century France, knight Jean de Carrouges and his squire Jacques Le Gris are ordered to fight to the death after Carrouges accuses Le Gris of raping his wife.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the book\u2019s synopsis, which provides more detail:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In the midst of the devastating Hundred Years\u2019 War between France and England, Jean de Carrouges, a Norman knight fresh from combat in Scotland,\u00a0returns home to yet another deadly threat. His wife, Marguerite, has accused squire Jacques Le Gris of rape.\u00a0A deadlocked court decrees a \u201ctrial by combat\u201d\u00a0between the two men\u00a0that also leaves Marguerite\u2019s fate in the balance.
