Or maybe supervillain. He doesn\u2019t have any wild superpowers, but he\u2019s got the helmet, the costume, the advanced weaponry, and a jet pack. He also has a really skewed sense of right and wrong, and he often takes it way too far.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Peacemaker is an interesting character because his ego seems contradictory,\u201d Cena told EW. \u201cHe is this guy who has developed this philosophy and he can use it as a blanket to behave badly: \u2018I am doing this thing that is morally wrong but I am doing it in the name of peace so it\u2019s okay.\u2019 He views himself as a superhero but I think a lot of us would watch his actions and think that they\u2019re morally wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A superhero who thinks he\u2019s always in the right even when he\u2019s not is the stuff of nightmares, not your traditional costumed crusader story. Then again, it makes sense, given this spin-off is\u00a0Gunn\u2019s quarantine baby.\u00a0Gunn\u2019s second feature film,\u00a0<strong><em>Super<\/em><\/strong>, followed a similar premise, except its \u201chero\u201d didn\u2019t have any superpowers and existed in our world.\u00a0<em>Super\u00a0<\/em>gets pretty depressing, so it\u2019s possible the\u00a0<em>Peacemaker\u00a0<\/em>series will go to some dark places, too.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 -->\u201cIn WWE I always try to get people to describe their characters in one sentence and I think that one sentence [for the Peacemaker is] \u2018He wants peace so much he\u2019s willing to kill for it,\u201d Cena elaborated.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, Gunn thought of casting his\u00a0<em><strong>Guardians of the Galaxy\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>buddy\u00a0<strong>Dave Bautista<\/strong> as the Peacemaker. That fell through when Bautista opted to star in\u00a0<strong>Zack Snyder<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0<em><strong>Army of the Dead<\/strong><\/em><em>, <\/em>and Gunn handpicked Cena to fill the toilet-seat-shaped helmet.<\/p>\n<p>That choice turned out to be a good one when Cena showed up on set, according to Gunn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a bit of a risk,\u201d Gunn said. \u201cI\u2019m hiring someone without auditioning. But he came in on the first day and just slayed and ended up being the best improvisational actor I\u2019ve ever worked with in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If I had to guess, that probably has something to do with Cena putting on live performances for years during his time with the WWE.
