“#Twitter<\/a> ditching \u2018Fleets\u2019 feature, says few people used it<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Twitter is getting rid of its disapp<\/a>earing posts feature called Fleets because not enough people used it, the company said Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Similar to Snapchat and Instagram\u2019s \u201cstory\u201d features, Fleets allow users to create posts that appeared in a bar at the top of the Twitter timeline and were automatically deleted after 24 hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The feature, which was first introduced in November 2020, will be unavailable starting on Aug. 3, Twitter said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hoped Fleets would help more people feel comfortable joining the conversation on Twitter,\u201d the company\u2019s head of product, brand and video ads Ilya Brown said in a blog post<\/a>. \u201cBut, in the time since\u00a0we introduced Fleets to everyone<\/a>, we haven\u2019t seen an increase in the number of new people joining the conversation with Fleets like we hoped.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some photo editing tools that were available in Fleets, like text formatting options and GIF stickers, will be made available for regular tweets, according to Brown.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we\u2019re not evolving our approach and winding down features every once in a while \u2013\u00a0 we\u2019re not taking big enough chances,\u201d Brown added. \u201cWe\u2019ll continue to build new ways to participate in conversations, listening to feedback and changing direction when there may be a better way to serve people using Twitter.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
