“#Diana Richardson\u2019s hypocrisy shows how Andrew Cuomo may survive his scandals<\/strong>”

If you wonder how Gov. Andrew Cuomo can possibly escape removal from office and perhaps even win re-election next year, consider Assemblywoman Diana Richardson (D-B\u2019klyn).<\/p>\n

Richardson showed up at Cuomo\u2019s \u201cWe\u2019re all really anti-crime\u201d Brooklyn press conference on Wednesday and was all lovey-dovey (literally, they exchanged kisses afterward and the gov told her, \u201cI love you\u201d) \u2014 though she announced back in March that he was no longer \u201centitled to remain\u201d in office since he\u2019d \u201cirreparably damaged his trustworthiness and ability to lead\u201d in his various #MeToo scandals, which include convincing allegations that he had his minions harass his accusers.<\/p>\n

Nor has she retracted that statement, issued jointly with state Sen. Zellnor Myrie (D-B\u2019klyn), who was also at the love-in (albeit with no kisses).<\/p>\n

Questioned about the issue, she told The Post\u2019s Julia Marsh, \u201cI\u2019m here today with the governor because politics is politics, business is business.\u201d And: \u201cAt the end of the day, we have a job to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

She then declared the question itself \u201cinapp<\/a>ropriate for the topic of this press conference,\u201d insisting, \u201cWe are in a state of emergency,\u201d and \u201cThis is not the time for us to be in our emotions and people\u2019s personal endeavors. This is the time to be solution-oriented and focused.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally, \u201cWe don\u2019t want divisive questions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Presumably, it was that\u00a0Don\u2019t you dare question our sincerity<\/em>\u00a0slapdown that earned the gov\u2019s love: He hates it when his own fraudulent posturing gets called out, too.<\/p>\n

First off: The \u201cjob to do\u201d excuse would carry more weight if this were a legislative effort,\u00a0not a grandstanding press conference complete\u00a0with smooches.<\/p>\n

Second: Richardson voted for the no-bail bill and other criminal-justice \u201creforms\u201d that Cuomo signed into law. Democratic mayoral nominee Eric Adams (along with Police Commissioner Dermot Shea, progressive Albany DA David Soares and a host of others) rightly points out these terrible\u00a0laws play a critical role in the gun-violence \u201cemergency\u201d that the presser was supposedly about.<\/p>\n

Yet Richardson, Cuomo and the rest don\u2019t want to\u00a0fix\u00a0those reforms. Instead, they\u2019re pitching a bunch of social<\/a>-spending hokum (outlays that would likely enrich nonprofits many of these pols are allied with). There was nothing that will stop the gang violence happening now, like the shootings that left a 13-year-old black teenager dead this week.<\/p>\n

The whole press conference was about covering the politicians\u2019 butts by making them seem to care about the deadly violence that\u2019s outraged the public. It was\u00a0all<\/em>\u00a0politics, not real business.<\/p>\n

This was the ultimate display of Albany hypocrisy: decrying the violence she helped create, kissing the man she accused of being a sexual harasser.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As we\u2019ve said before, the Assembly should\u2019ve impeached Cuomo months ago over his administration\u2019s\u00a0admitted<\/em>\u00a0law-breaking \u2014 its months-long coverup (with multiple flagrant violations of the Freedom of Information Law) of the true COVID nursing-home death toll while the gov was nabbing his $5 million book deal.<\/p>\n

But Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie is drawing out the process, abetting Cuomo\u2019s bid to outlast the scandal \u2014 which leaves the gov desperate to keep the speaker happy and so determined not to fix those disastrous \u201creforms.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richardson, and every other Assembly Democrat, is complicit in\u00a0that<\/em>, too.<\/p>\n

All of which makes them furious indeed at anyone who asks \u201cdivisive questions.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
