And as it grows, it evolves. It is now transforming its business model from challenger to incumbent, with initiatives such as channel partner consolidation and more careful management of older stock in the open market. It is still largely skewed toward the mass market, however, and compared with Samsung and Apple, its average selling price is around 40% and 75% cheaper respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Xiaomi has been taking steady steps towards getting to this point. In 2019, it opened <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.androidauthority.com\/xiaomi-africa-department-944839\/\">a dedicated Africa department<\/a> to handle distribution across the continent. The same year, it started <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mexicanist.com\/l\/xiaomi-expands-its-stores-in-latin-america\/\">opening<\/a><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Xiaomi\/comments\/bk1pii\/xiaomi_opens_in_peru_his_biggest_store_in_latin\/\">physical stores<\/a> in Latin America.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, a report from analytics firm Counterpoint suggested that Xiaomi became <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gizmochina.com\/2021\/03\/05\/xiaomi-3rd-largest-brand-latin-america-q4-2020\/\">the third-largest smartphone company<\/a> in Latin America for Q4 2020. It has also registered steady growth in Africa, but still falls behind brands such as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gizmochina.com\/2021\/04\/19\/counterpoint-tecno-overtakes-samsung-to-lead-african-smartphone-market-xiaomi-doubles-its-share\/\">Tecno, Infinix, and Samsung<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Xiaomi is still <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.counterpointresearch.com\/india-smartphone-shipments-q1-2021\/\">on the top of smartphone charts in India<\/a>, one of the world\u2019s biggest markets.<\/p>\n<p>The next target for the company would be to beat Apple in yearly smartphone shipments.
