Former Mets reliever Jerry Blevins went at Alex Rodriguez without any restraint, leveling the former Yankees great and ESPN announcer for seemingly suggesting MLB adopt a salary cap system.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a hypocrite @Arod,\u201d he tweeted. \u201cTake your steroids and make your millions THEN tell the players they need to change. What a joke. Good luck trying to get content from the very players you\u2019re trying to sell out to get your ownership group selected.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rodriguez, who made close to $450 million during his career and lied about using PEDs, along with fianc\u00e9e Jennifer Lopez are one of the bidders to purchase the Mets from the Wilpons.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Rodriguez made controversial comments that he feels baseball needs to make changes. He said players no longer have the leverage they once had and that they need to make concessions like revenue sharing, a concept the union has long feared would ultimately lead to a salary cap.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only way it\u2019s going to happ<\/a>en is if they get to the table and say the No. 1 goal, let\u2019s get from $10 to $15 billion and then we\u2019ll split the economics evenly,\u201d Rodriguez said. \u201cBut that\u2019s the type of conversation instead of fighting and fighting against each other because there is too much competition out there right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

After getting criticism for the comments \u2013 MLBPA president Tony Clark said \u201cAlex benefited as much as anybody from the battles this union fought against owners\u2019 repeated attempts to get a salary cap\u201d \u2014 Rodriguez tried to walk them back, saying he never actually used the phrase \u201csalary cap.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former Yankees teammate Brandon McCarthy also lashed out at Rodriguez, tweeting that he hopes he gets \u201cshouted out\u201d from every clubhouse. McCarthy also called A-Rod a \u201cself-serving liar.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
