In an announcement published on Friday, the exchange <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/support\/announcement\/3a0304f3ee1c43668959c1b01f610d59\">announced<\/a> that \u201ceffective immediately,\u201d stock tokens are unavailable for purchase on Binance.com. As of October 14, 2021, at 7:55 pm UTC, the exchange will no longer support stock tokens at all.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Existing stock token holders will have some time to adjust:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cUsers who currently hold stock tokens may sell or hold them over the next 90 days. Users will no longer be able to manually sell or close their positions after 2021-10-14 19:55 (UTC). Thereafter all stock token positions on Binance.com will be closed at 2021-10-15 13:30 (UTC).\u201d\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While unconfirmed as of the time of writing, Walter Bloomberg has claimed in a tweet that:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">HONG KONG&#8217;S SFC SAYS NO ENTITY IN THE BINANCE GROUP IS LICENSED OR REGISTERED TO CONDUCT &#8220;REGULATED ACTIVITY&#8221; IN HONG KONG<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 *Walter Bloomberg (@DeItaone) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DeItaone\/status\/1415979942404370432?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 16, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>If true, the development would confirm that mounting regulatory pressure on the world\u2019s largest cryptocurrency platform is continuing to hit its operations hard. <\/p>\n<p>In late April, there had already been reports that European and British regulators were scrutinizing Binance\u2019s offering of stock tokens \u2014 which represent fractions of equity shares in firms such as Tesla and Coinbase \u2014 for possible non-compliance with securities laws. While initially not commenting on Binance in particular, Germany\u2019s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) went on record at the time, stating that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFundamentally [&#8230;] the following <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lies: if tokens are transferable, can be traded at a crypto exchange and are equipped with economic entitlements like dividends or cash settlements, they represent securities and are subject to the obligation to publish a prospectus.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>BaFin soon mentioned Binance explicitly, noting its absence of published prospectuses for the stock tokens.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Binance and FTX list Coinbase stock tokens ahead of exchange\u2019s Nasdaq debut<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spring and summer of 2021 have been difficult for Binance on the regulatory front, with multiple countries taking action against it or reportedly investigating its operations from various compliance perspectives. <\/p>\n<p>In the United Kingdom, the Financial Conduct Authority\u00a0ordered the exchange to halt all \u201cregulated activity\u201d in the country in June.
