href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> and governance outcomes, according to a new Goldman Sachs report.<\/p>\n<p> Assets under management at fixed-income funds focused on ESG, the shorthand for a host of efforts to promote more responsible forms of finance, has ballooned by more than 600% to $400 billion since 2018, the report says.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Here\u2019s a graphic to show the steep climb in assets tied to itemprop=\"creator\"><br \/>\n            EPFR, Goldman Sachs<br \/>\n          <\/span><br \/>\n  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>       \u201cIn early 2020, we argued that demand for ESG assets would continue to create its own supply within fixed income markets,\u201d a Goldman credit research team led by Lotfi Karoui wrote, in a weekly note, adding that \u201ca year and a half later,\u201d the pace has surprised to the upside.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent example, Manhattan office landlord SL Green Realty Corp.<br \/>\n        SLG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/208985878\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.00%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       in June closed <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/slgreen.com\/sl-green-completes-3-billion-refinancing-of-one-vanderbilt-avenue\/\" class=\"icon none\">a $3 billion bond financing <\/a>on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.onevanderbilt.com\/location\" class=\"icon none\">One Vanderbilt Avenue<\/a>, a new skyscraper that overlooks Grand Central Terminal in New York City that it developed with the National Pension Service of Korea and Hines Interests Limited Partnership.<\/p>\n<p>The building is one of eight buildings that SL Green tied to its <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sustainability.slgreen.com\/environmental-sustainability\/\" class=\"icon none\">pledge with tenants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions<\/a> by 30% over 10 years. SL Green had no immediate comment.<\/p>\n<p>Green bonds and others debt with a stated ESG purpose often reduces borrowing costs for companies, in part as investors increasingly hunt for assets that match their ESG mandates. <\/p>\n<p>Historically low 10-year Treasury yields<br \/>\n        TMUBMUSD10Y,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.000%\" channel=\"\" class=\"\">1.293%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n        spotted near 1.31% on Friday, also mean debt can be a pretty cheap option for businesses and property owners looking to borrow funds. Stocks were lower Friday,  but still near record territory as the economic recovery from the pandemic advances, with the Dow<br \/>\n        DJIA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598065\/realtime\" class=\"negative\">-0.86%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       S&amp;P 500<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"negative\">-0.75%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Nasdaq Composite Index<br \/>\n        COMP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598365\/realtime\" class=\"negative\">-0.80%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       off less than 0.7% in afternoon trade.<\/p>\n<p>But lax enforcement mechanisms also have emerged as a key criticism of the sector, particularly when companies that fall short in reporting on how ESG-dedicated funds were used and if their stated objectives were met or not. <\/p>\n<p>Several bond investors told MarketWatch that the most powerful tools at their disposal in terms of enforcement if something goes awry would be to sell the debt after issues crop up or by avoiding an issuer\u2019s future debt offerings.  <\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>The boom in debt issuance has led the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/news\/press-release\/2021-42\" class=\"icon none\"> set up a climate and ESG task force <\/a>in March in its enforcement division to police for potential violations in the sector.<\/p>\n<p>The focus on ESG comes as the 40-year toll of major U.S. climate and weather disasters reaches $2 trillion and as parts of the West Coast gr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>les with record heat, extreme wildfires and drought.<\/p>\n<p>The European Union this week also released its \u201cFit for 55\u201d program to cut carbon emissions by 55% by 2030. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/environment\/europe-unveil-sweeping-climate-change-policy-blueprint-2021-07-13\/\" class=\"icon none\">A Reuters report<\/a> said the plan will \u201cconsign the internal combustion engine to history,\u201d while BofA researchers in a new report call it \u201cthe most ambitious multilateral climate strategy ever attempted.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"byline article__byline\">\n<p>      <span>By<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"author  hasMenu\" data-scrim='{\"type\":\"author\",\"header\":\"Joy Wiltermuth\",\"subhead\":\"The Wall Street Journal\",\"list\":[]}' itemscope itemprop=\"author\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/Person\">\n<h4 itemprop=\"name\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Joy_Wiltermuth\"><\/span>Joy Wiltermuth<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
