In Windows 11, you can enable special folder shortcuts (for Music, Pictures, Download<\/a>s, and more) that appear your Start menu for quick access. Here\u2019s how to turn them on.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s no secret that the Windows 11 Start menu ships with a different layout than its predecessor. Familiar locations have changed. For example, in Windows 10, you can enable special folder shortcuts that live in the left sidebar of Start. In Windows 11, similar shortcuts can also appear in Start, but you\u2019ll find them as a row of simple glyph-like icons with no labels at the very bottom of the Start menu.<\/p>\n

To see these special shortcuts, you\u2019ll have to turn them on first. To get started, open Windows Settings. You can search for \u201cSettings\u201d in Start and click its icon, press Windows+i on your keyboard, or perhaps find \u201cSettings\u201d pinned to your Start menu.<\/p>\n

When Settings opens, navigate to Personalization > Start.<\/p>\n

In Start settings, click \u201cFolders.\u201d<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll see a list of special folder names with switches beside them. The shortcut options include \u201cSettings,\u201d \u201cFile Explorer,\u201d \u201cDocuments,\u201d \u201cDownloads,\u201d \u201cMusic,\u201d \u201cPictures,\u201d \u201cVideos,\u201d \u201cNetwork,\u201d and \u201cPersonal Folder\u201d (your account\u2019s home folder).<\/p>\n

Using the list, locate the folder shortcut or shortcuts that you\u2019d like to see in Start, and click the switch beside each one to turn it to \u201cOn.\u201d You can choose any combination of them that you\u2019d like.<\/p>\n

After that, close Settings. When you click the Start button, you\u2019ll see the folder shortcuts listed in the lower-right corner of the Start menu just beside the power button.<\/p>\n

If you change your mind and would like to remove a special folder shortcut from Start, just revisit Settings > Personalization > Start > Folders and set the switch beside it to \u201cOff.\u201d Good luck!<\/p>\n
