“#Nationals game<\/a> shooting causes chaos inside stadium<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Chaos erupted during Saturday night\u2019s baseball game at Nationals Park \u2014 with fans fleeing or taking cover under seats \u2014 after four people were shot outside the Washington, DC, stadium.<\/p>\n

The DC Police Department said on Twitter<\/a> that two people had been shot outside the ballpark, adding that \u201ctwo additional victims associated with this incident\u201d had walked into hospitals with gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n

There was \u201cno ongoing threat,\u201d cops wrote in a tweet at around 10 p.m., adding that the game between the Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres was suspended.<\/p>\n

Several loud bangs were heard<\/a> around 9:30 p.m. just as the players were leaving the field in the middle of the sixth inning.<\/p>\n

Fans could be seen taking cover under their seats as helicopters circled the ballpark, footage tweeted<\/a> by WBRZ-TV reporter Dana DiPiazza showed.<\/p>\n

Police sirens blared as panic broke out, with several in the crowd trying to book it out of the ballpark.<\/p>\n

One person shared footage<\/a> of throngs of fans trying to exit the stadium \u2014 only to quickly reverse course to another exit as armed police stood guard.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was on 3rd base side in section 115 where is happ<\/a>ened,\u201d another person tweeted<\/a>.<\/strong> \u201cIt was crazy everyone ducked and at least 2000-3000 people ran on the field into the dugouts down into the tunnels.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other videos showed<\/a> fans streaming onto the field or into the dugouts in fear and confusion.<\/p>\n

Footage taken from a nearby rooftop<\/a> showed the frantic mass evacuation of the stadium, which is in the city\u2019s Capitol Riverfront neighborhood.<\/p>\n

Players could be seen running into the stands, including Padres\u00a0shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., who grabbed family members and brought them into the clubhouse, in video posted<\/a> by Kevin Acee, the Padres reporter for the San Diego Union-Tribune.<\/p>\n

Nationals pitcher Patrick Corbin was one of several people who fled for the concourse. Others rushed into bathrooms or suites, according <\/a>to an NBC Washington photojournalist.<\/p>\n

The Nationals initially announced there had been an incident outside the stadium and posted a message on the scoreboard asking fans to remain inside.<\/p>\n

About 10 minutes later, the home team tweeted <\/a>that a shooting was was reported outside the third base gate and that \u201cfans are encouraged to exit the ballpark via the CF and RF gates at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The game was halted in the sixth inning with San Diego leading the Nats 8-4. It will be resumed Sunday afternoon, followed by the regularly scheduled game.<\/p>\n
