\n A promised NYPD \u2018crackdown\u2019 on the crowds of drinking revelers who\u2019ve been jamming the sidewalk cafes of Astoria yielded mixed results Saturday night \u2014 when the party mostly lingered on.<\/p>\n

Dozens of NYPD officers plus some 30 deputies from the city\u2019s Sheriff\u2019s Office spent hours ticketing double-parked cars and asking people to disperse along popular Steinway Street after darkness fell.<\/p>\n

They were mostly ignored by the officers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese young guys don\u2019t want to listen,\u201d limo driver Michael Lantigua, 44, complained as a mostly maskless sidewalk throng danced to music blasted out of car windows.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome nights I see such craziness,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like they call each other: \u2018Come, we have fun times in Astoria. Whatever you like.\u2019 And nobody stops them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then, shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, sheriff\u2019s deputies struck at least one mobbed restaurant, \u201cBRIK Astoria,\u201d at Steinway and Broadway.<\/p>\n

The officers served the restaurant with a commissioner\u2019s order for noncompliance of social<\/a>-distancing rules, barring them from serving outdoors for a week.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne-hundred-percent unfair,\u201d manager Fred Nailes groused afterward, insisting he was doing his best to control crowds.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re getting blamed for people hanging out like it\u2019s Florida.\u201d<\/p>\n

The police presence on Saturday night hardly harshed the enjoyment of revelers like Michael Lantigua, of The Bronx, who came to celebrate his 26th birthday with friends.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was crazy, bro,\u201d he said, clutching a bottle of Hennessy in one hand and a plastic cup of orange juice and ice in another.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a whole lot of girls. Everybody was drinking and chilling. Was there a whole lot of social distancing? Not really\u2026 Everybody was close. Some people wore masks. Some people didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n
