American kids are binge-watching so much of the British cartoon \u201cPeppa Pig\u2019\u2019\u00a0that they are developing\u00a0English\u00a0accents and even using words like \u201ctelly\u201d and \u201cready, steady, go.\u201d<\/p>\n

The so-called Peppa Effect had already led kids in the US to mimic the star swine from UK-produced \u201cPeppa Pig\u201d \u2013 and all that extra telly time during COVID-19 restrictions app<\/a>ears to be making the phenomenon more widespread<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Screen time limits were lifted as parents worked from home and extra Peppa binging ensued. Now parents say more kids are opting for \u201cFather Christmas\u201d instead of \u201cSanta Claus\u201d and throwing out expressions like \u201cgive it a go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peppa Pig was the second most in-demand cartoon after \u201cSpongebob Squarepants\u201d for a 12-month period ending February, the Journal stated, citing data from consulting firm Parrot Analytics. It was the 50th<\/sup> most in-demand out of all shows, reportedly moving up from the 103rd<\/sup> spot a year earlier.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung Peppa fans see her as a friend .. and, as we do with friends that we admire, pick up some of their characteristics,\u201d Entertainment One Ltd, the show\u2019s owner said in a statement to the news<\/a>paper.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn a recent VACATION, my 5-year-old dared tell me that she was loving her HOLIDAY,\u201d California resident Matias Cavallin said on Twitter. \u201cI told her we speak American in this house \u2026 and Spanish too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cavallin was replying to a crowdsourcing request from Preetika Rana<\/a>, a Wall Street Journal reporter who co-wrote an article on the topic<\/a> and said her 5-year-old niece in New York City had taken to speaking in \u201ca posh English accent.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the Journal article, Cavallin said his 5-year-old, Dani, had taken to saying things like \u201cMummy, are you going to the optician?\u201d Rhode Island mom Lauren Ouellette said her 6-year-old even referred to a bathroom as a water closet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like \u2018where did she learn that from? Was she on the Titanic in a past life?\u2019 \u201d Ouellette told Journal.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
