Specifically, it reduced the subsidy\u00a0<span>by $700 (\u00a3500) to $3,480 (\u00a32,500), and c<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ed price eligibility at $49,000 (\u00a335,000) from $68,000 (\u00a350,000).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On Monday, during an interview with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/industry-news-government\/how-government-plans-steer-uk-transport-net-zero-2030\">Autocar<\/a>, Transport Decarbonization Minister\u00a0<span>Rachel Maclean defended the government\u2019s decision and hinted that the \u201cPlug-in Grant\u201d might be disposed of altogether.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Supporting_the_cut\"><\/span>Supporting the cut<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>She explained that the reduced EV grant is now targeting \u201clower-priced vehicles\u201d because \u201cthat\u2019s where people are less likely to be able to fund the cost out of their own pocket entirely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, that\u2019s not really unfair, given that the cut\u00a0<span>is mainly going to affect people who already have quite a bit of money to spend on a car. And there are still <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisismoney.co.uk\/money\/cars\/article-9377363\/EVs-Government-subsidise-slashed-plug-car-grant.html\">27 eligible electric models<\/a>,\u00a0such as the more affordable Renault Zoe, and even the BMW i3 <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Recalling_the_grant\"><\/span>Recalling the grant<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Regarding the grant\u2019s potential slash, Maclean told Autocar that \u201c<span>it\u2019s right to keep on looking at that [the future of the scheme], because ultimately we need to make sure we\u2019re not using government money to help people buy cars who could have afforded them anyway.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span>One of our concerns is to make this an equitable transition for everyone, and of course at the moment electric cars are a bit more expensive \u2014 although if you factor in the overall cost of ownership, they will be on a parity soon.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, the intention to recall the grant had been already announced in the government\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/739460\/road-to-zero.pdf\">Road to Zero<\/a> plan, back in 2018.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As the EV market becomes better<span>\u00a0established and more competitive, the need for direct government financial support will decrease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>We therefore expect to deliver a managed exit from the grant in due course and to continue to support the uptake of ultra low emission vehicles through other measures.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Implementing_other_measures\"><\/span>Implementing other measures<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span>In the interview, Maclean also suggested that hydrogen and synthetic e-fuels will also play a role in decarbonizing transport, but this will not include passenger cars.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Instead, the focus will be on heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), airplanes, and ships.<\/p>\n<p>As a matter of fact, these statements seem to correspond with the government\u2019s \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/government-publishes-worlds-first-greenprint-to-decarbonise-all-modes-of-domestic-transport-by-2050\">greenprint<\/a>\u201d to decarbonize all modes of domestic transport by 2050, published just a week ago.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_keep_in_mind\"><\/span><strong>What to keep in mind<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As EVs become the norm, we shouldn\u2019t be too surprised by the potential removal of subsidies. After all, such incentives were designed to encourage\u00a0<span>people to make the switch from combustion to electricity by trying to balance the price disparity between the two types of vehicles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This means that we can eventually expect governments around the world to lift their EV grants and to even impose other related taxes,\u00a0<span>as fuel duty will gradually disappear and they\u2019ll have to fill the financial gap.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But seeing that EVs aren\u2019t the norm yet, a<span>nd it\u2019ll be some more years before they\u2019re dominant<\/span>, withdrawing financial incentives too soon may hinder the sought-after transition.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><i><span>Do EVs excite your electrons?
