Indeed, when Germany did have a dry summer last year, that, too, was put down to climate change.\u201d The \u201calternative explanation for last week\u2019s floods is \u201cthat they are mere weather. Weather, indeed, caused similarly devastating floods in nearby areas in 1954, leaving 10,000 Germans homeless.\u201d This \u201cis a case of predicting one thing, and then, when the opposite h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ens, to turn round and say, \u2018Look, I told you so.\u2019\u200a\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Libertarian: Dems\u2019 Backfiring Carbon Tariff<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Democrats want to tax goods from countries, such as China, that don\u2019t adopt stricter environmental standards, yet their \u201cscheme looks like it would tax Americans to punish\u201d non-complying foreign manufacturers, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2021\/07\/16\/more-tariffs-wont-solve-pollution-or-global-warming\/printer\/\">observes Reason\u2019s Eric Boehm<\/a>. It would also \u201crequire a massive expansion of federal bureaucracy\u201d to measure the carbon output of every import, set tariff rates and enforce payment \u2014 a \u201crecipe for cronyism,\u201d as one economist warns. Meanwhile, Boehm argues, tariffs aren\u2019t a \u201cparticularly effective tool at getting other countries to change their behavior. It\u2019s like telling your annoying neighbor that you\u2019ll smash your fist into your own front door if he doesn\u2019t stop blasting his music. He might care enough to prevent you from hurting yourself, but it wasn\u2019t the threat that did it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>From the right: Keep CRT Out of the Military<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even though critical race theory is a \u201cpoisonous ideology\u201d that \u201cessentially advocates burning down\u201d basic American structures, norms and institutions, including the US military, \u201csenior military leaders seem to be endorsing\u201d it, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/wokeness-is-sabotaging-the-military-academies\">warns John Cooper at the Washington Examiner<\/a>. \u201cIntroducing CRT\u2019s racial division and resentment will erode camaraderie\u201d and \u201cundermine the instrumental unity that is essential for the US military to successfully protect our national interests.\u201d And yet professors at service academies are indoctrinating the newest class of America\u2019s defenders with a theory that suggests our \u201cConstitution is a racist, dehumanizing, flawed document.\u201d Where the focus should be \u201ctraining and equipping young men and women to be the best warfighters and leaders in the world,\u201d it would seem that \u201cour military leaders have a different priority. China and Russia must be celebrating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Foreign desk: The Fragility of Freedom<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid we really mean \u2018never again\u2019? The world doesn\u2019t look like we did,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2021\/07\/did-we-really-mean-never-again-the-world-doesnt-look-like-we-did\/\">laments National Review\u2019s Kathryn Jean Lopez<\/a>. \u201cAt every turn\u201d at the first International Religious Freedom Summit in Washington, \u201cyou ran into someone extraordinary, with a harrowing story to tell.\u201d Ensaf Haider\u2019s husband, Raif Badawi, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes in Saudi Arabia for \u201casking questions about faith and challenging extremism.\u201d Mariam Ibraheem \u201clived to tell the story of her death sentence\u201d in Sudan \u2014 for \u201crefusing to recant\u201d her Christian faith. \u201cTursunay Ziyawudun, a Uyghur Muslim, described the \u2018indelible scars\u2019 on her heart from the violence she suffered\u201d in Chinese detention camps. These \u201cpersecuted\u201d men and women should \u201cremind us of the fragility of religious freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iconoclast: Beware the Corporate State<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nearly 120 years ago, GOP President Teddy Roosevelt warned his countrymen of the dangers of unaccountable corporate power, a posture many Democrats also embraced in the last century \u2014 yet now, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/judiciary\/563520-shadow-state-embracing-corporate-governance-to-escape-constitutional-limits\">Jonathan Turley thunders at The Hill<\/a>, it\u2019s \u201cDemocratic leaders\u201d who \u201cincreasingly advocate for corporate governance, while Republicans voice populist themes.
