Sometimes we need to have a little cry about it. Sometimes, it\u2019s the release of the\u00a0<strong><em>Jackass Forever\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>trailer that has tears inexplicably running down our faces.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been anxiously awaiting the release of the\u00a0<em>Jackass Forever<\/em> trailer like some folks wait for new footage from\u00a0DC or Marvel. The\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em> crew have been a part of my life since I was an angsty pre-teen sleeping above my parents\u2019 garage. Seeing them together one last time feels like a homecoming. The series means so much more to me than poop jokes and guys hitting one another in the nuts. The\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em> guys taught me about found family, positive masculinity, and how to get back up when life knocks you down. There\u2019s a punk-rock, fight-the-system mentality at the core of\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em>, but there\u2019s also a lot of love and respect.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em> guys are my role models, and I need to explain why.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post --><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-685664 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/knoxvilleweemanheart-700x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/knoxvilleweemanheart.jpg 700w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/knoxvilleweemanheart-360x154.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_Your_Friends_Become_Family\"><\/span>When Your Friends Become Family<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The beating heart of the\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em> franchise is the love these guys have for one another. While they may have funny ways of showing it, the guys in the\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em> crew take care of one another in a way you rarely see from other famous men. Star\u00a0<strong>Johnny Knoxville<\/strong> and director\u00a0<strong>Jeff Tremaine<\/strong> have tried to be a support system for the cast, and\u00a0<strong>Steve-O\u00a0<\/strong>credits Knoxville for saving his life by forcing him into rehab over a decade ago. Sadly, their attempts to get fellow\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em> alum\u00a0<strong>Bam Margera<\/strong> to clean up his act haven\u2019t gone as well. Margera, who has struggled with alcohol and drug abuse for years, refused the rehab stipulations in his\u00a0<em>Jackass Forever<\/em> contract and was fired from production.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s a shame that Margera won\u2019t accept the help being offered, there will be plenty of \u201cnew blood\u201d in\u00a0<em>Jackass Forever<\/em> to help cover his absence. While I\u2019m excited to see\u00a0<strong>Zach Holmes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Eric Manaka<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Rachel Wolfson<\/strong>, and\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Sean \u201cPoopies\u201d McInerney<\/strong>, I\u2019m especially looking forward to any segments with the guys from\u00a0<strong><em>Loiter Squad<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0<em>Loiter Squad<\/em> was a series created by Tremaine for Adult Swim that combined sketch comedy with\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em>-style stunts and pranks. We already knew\u00a0<strong>Jasper Dolphin<\/strong> and his father,\u00a0<strong>Dark Shark<\/strong>, were going to be in the movie from the first look photos, but the trailer confirms that\u00a0<strong>Tyler the Creator<\/strong> will also be joining in on the fun.\u00a0<em>Loiter Squad<\/em> felt like the perfect successor to\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em>, because it maintained the same anarchic energy grounded by tight friendships. Seeing these guys alongside the originators feels like a family reunion where the next generation gets to put on a show for their elders. It\u2019s surprisingly wholesome for a series made famous by injuries and poop.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em> guys are a kind of found family who embrace one another fully. The gang have been a force of positivity for people from all walks of life. Between the TV series and the movies, they\u2019ve had lots of guest stars who you usually wouldn\u2019t see in this kind of juvenile bro-down.<\/p>\n<p><em>Jackass\u00a0<\/em>proves that you can be part of their stunt crew no matter your physical ability. It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re four feet tall, like\u00a0<strong>Jason \u201cWee Man\u201d\u00a0Acu\u00f1a<\/strong>, several hundred pounds like\u00a0<strong>Preston Lacy<\/strong>, or you\u2019re a wheelchair-user like\u00a0<em>Jackass 2<\/em> guest star\u00a0<strong>Mark Zupan<\/strong>. The only requirement is that you\u2019re able to laugh at yourself.<\/p>\n<p>No one on\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em> takes themselves too seriously, which is a refreshing change of pace from many entertainers with multi-decade careers. And while they\u2019re primarily a group of white men, they\u2019ve had such a diverse group of guest stars that almost everyone can feel represented.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps most importantly, while the\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em> guys do a lot of stupid things, they are always the target of their own jokes. Instead of punching down, they pretty much just punch themselves. It would have been easy to lean into the often bigoted early 2000s style of edgy humor when the show debuted, but they never did.\u00a0Knoxville and co. showed us that you can be juvenile and masculine without being homophobic, misogynistic, or racist. The song\u2019s lyrics describe the ultimate\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em> ethos: \u201cIf you\u2019re gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough. If you get knocked down, you gotta get back up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sure, that\u2019s not T.S. Eliot-level poetry, but it\u2019s a damn fine mission statement for surviving life. There\u2019s a persistence to\u00a0<em>Jackass<\/em>, a tenacity that\u2019s admirable. These performers have been seriously injured but keep getting back up and doing it again. The guys come from a variety of backgrounds, but Steve-O\u2019s the only trained clown. Yet, they continually risk life and limb in the name of making us laugh.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s just something inspiring about a group of people who support and love one another unconditionally while also behaving like breathing crash test dummies.
