Just yesterday, we posted the news that the <strong><em>District 9<\/em><\/strong> director is now working on video <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s, developing a multiplayer shooter for the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriately named Gunzilla, which \u201caims to weave in narrative elements.\u201d This summer also brought the trailer for Blomkamp\u2019s new possession thriller, <em>Demonic\u00a0<\/em>(due out August 20, 2021), while separately, we got a look at more of the concept art for his scrapped <em>Aliens<\/em> sequel.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, we reported that Blomkamp finally had a long-awaited sequel to <em>District 9<\/em> in the works. Now, details of the film\u2019s plot have surfaced, and it sounds like <strong><em>District 10<\/em><\/strong> will pivot from South Africa to the United States.<\/p>\n<p><!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post --><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/district-10-american-history-district-10-sequel\">IGN<\/a> reports that<em> District 10<\/em> will deal with \u201ca topic in American history.\u201d Blomkamp doesn\u2019t elaborate on what that topic is, but given the themes of <em>District 9<\/em>, it\u2019s not hard to imagine that it might have something to do with America\u2019s fraught\u00a0racial history. <em>District 9 <\/em>was set in a South Africa that very much resembled <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/apartheid\">apartheid<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> policy that implemented racial segregation and discrimination against nonwhites.\u00a0The difference was that it substituted nonhumans, the alien \u201cprawn\u201d species, for\u00a0nonwhites.<\/p>\n<p>Like all the best <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> fiction, the film managed to submerge its themes within an engaging narrative, delivering mech action and body horror but also piggybacking themes of racism and xenophobia. <strong>Sharlto Copley<\/strong> made his feature-film debut as Wikus, the bumbling bureaucrat whose infection and gradual transformation into a prawn would make him less human in body and more human in mind.<\/p>\n<p>One thing that does sound promising is about\u00a0<em>District 10 <\/em>is that the delay in it\u00a0seems to stem\u00a0from Blomkamp and company wanting to crack the story and make sure they get it right. \u201cIt took a decade to figure out, to come up with a reason why to make that film as opposed to just make a sequel,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-685853 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/District-9-Sharlto-Copley-700x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/District-9-Sharlto-Copley-700x300.jpg 700w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/District-9-Sharlto-Copley-360x154.jpg 360w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/District-9-Sharlto-Copley-768x329.jpg 768w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/District-9-Sharlto-Copley.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Arc_of_Blomkamps_Career_Post-District_9\"><\/span>The Arc of Blomkamp\u2019s Career, Post-<em>District 9<\/em><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>District 9<\/em> was arguably the best science fiction film of 2009, a year that also brought us the likes of <em>Star Trek<\/em>, <em>Moon<\/em>, and James Cameron\u2019s\u00a0<em>Avatar<\/em>. Like <em>Avatar<\/em>, which reclaimed the throne this year as the highest-grossing motion picture of all time, Blomkamp\u2019s film earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. It was his directorial debut and he co-wrote it with his wife, <strong>Terri Tatchell,\u00a0<\/strong>who is returning to help pen the script for\u00a0<em>District 10<\/em>\u00a0along with him and Copley.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 --><strong>Peter Jackson<\/strong> co-produced <em>District 9\u00a0<\/em>and, for a brief time, it seemed like he was grooming Blomkamp to be his successor of sorts in the sci-fi\/fantasy blockbuster realm.\u00a0Yet\u00a0Blomkamp\u2019s career in the twelve years since has never quite lived up to the promise of his first feature.<\/p>\n<p>First, there was <em>Elysium<\/em>, which Blomkamp later said <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/elysium_2013\">he \u201cf**ked up.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0Then there was <em>Chappie<\/em>, which received mixed-to-negative reviews. Following that, Blomkamp\u2019s filmography went dark for over half a decade.
