J.K. Rowling shot back at a Twitter user who threatened her with a \u201cpipebomb,\u201d noting that she has come out on top since being inducted into the cancel club.<\/p>\n

The Harry Potter author, 55, shared a screenshot of the now-deleted tweet as evidence of the hate mail she received since expressing her controversial opinions about gender last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish you a very nice pipebomb in mailbox,\u201d the message from Twitter user @queerqegaard, who has since deleted their account, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be fair, when you can\u2019t get a woman sacked, arrested or dropped by her publisher, and cancelling her only made her book sales go up, there\u2019s really only one place to go,\u201d Rowling tweeted<\/a> in response.<\/p>\n

Rowling, who also writes under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, explained why she received the threatening tweet in a reply, noting it stems from comments she made last year that were deemed transphobic by critics and advocacy groups.<\/p>\n

\u201cHundreds of trans activists have threatened to beat, rape, assassinate and bomb me I\u2019ve realised that this movement poses no risk to women whatsoever,\u201d she tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The author, who is working on her latest Cormoran Strike book series<\/a> under the pen name, also expressed gratitude to fans who sent her \u201csupportive messages\u201d amid the latest firestorm.<\/p>\n

\u201cGot to get back to my chapter now, but to all the people sending me beautiful, kind, funny and supportive messages, thank you so much,\u201d she added. \u201cWish I had time to answer all of you, but Strike and Robin are at a tricky stage of their investigation, so I need to drop a few clues.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her tweets come after her vocal opposition to transgender activism, which she has said was a way to \u201cerode \u2018woman\u2019 as a political and biological class.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2020, Rowling shared a news<\/a> article that included the phrase \u201cpeople who menstruate,\u201d noting that she takes issue with the terminology. \u201d \u2018People who menstruate.\u2019 I\u2019m sure there used to be a word for those people,\u201d Rowling tweeted<\/a>. \u201cSomeone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf sex isn\u2019t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased,\u201d she added<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She followed that up with a lengthy essay with her thoughts on gender, claiming that she received \u201cheartbreaking\u201d letters from women who underwent \u201cirreversible\u201d gender confirmation surgery.<\/p>\n

Many were taken aback by her comments, some of whom dubbed them problematic and \u201ctransphobic.\u201d<\/p>\n

In May, a Harry Potter-theme<\/a>d event at a New Zealand book festival was cancelled and stars in her films \u2014 \u00a0including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and\u00a0Eddie Redmayne<\/a> \u2014 have since spoken out against Rowling\u2019s commentary.<\/p>\n

Some fans even went as far as declaring her \u201cdead,\u201d sending #RIPJKRowling to the top of the Twitter trending charts last September. Two big Harry Potter fan sites, Leaky Cauldron<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0MuggleNet<\/a>, also said in a joint statement that Rowling\u2019s personal views are at odds with the attitudes reflected in her best-selling books.<\/p>\n

While Rowling has been largely silent since her lengthy essay, Twitter users condemned the violence spewed at the author over her opinions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really, really cannot state how much I disagree with you on your opinions on this issue and how they hurt & sadden me deeply as a fan,\u201d one user wrote<\/a>. \u201cHOWEVER, these ridiculous threats and calls for violence are disgusting. Trans activists \u2014 you don\u2019t make yourselves look good this way!\u201d<\/p>\n

Others, however, said Rowling should refrain from posting \u201charmful rhetoric\u201d in the first place.<\/p>\n
