“#How to ditch Chrome\u2019s dumbass tab groups on Android<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

A few versions ago, Google\u2019s Chrome browser for Android got a feature that opened new tabs in groups. This means when you click on a link, it opens that page in a little \u2018folder\u2019 \u2014 making it tough to find individual tabs while scrolling.<\/p>\n

Bless the lord: Android Police has discovered you can now turn that off<\/a>. Well, if you have the current stable version 91 of Chrome that is. In this release, you can set it to open links in ungrouped tabs by default, or use tab groups like before, if that\u2019s your thing.<\/p>\n

All you need to do is change a couple of experimental settings in Chrome, restart it, and you\u2019re off to the races.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how to do it:<\/p>\n

Open Chrome on your phone, and enter chrome:\/\/flags\/#enable-start-surface<\/em>. Tap the drop-down menu below it, and select \u201cEnabled Single Surface V2 Finale.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then, go to chrome:\/\/flags\/#enable-tab-grid-layout<\/em>, and select \u201cEnabled Without auto group\u201d from the drop-down menu below it.<\/p>\n

Restart Chrome, then open the Android recents menu (which displays your currently running app<\/a>s), and dismiss Chrome from there.<\/p>\n

Launch Chrome one more time, and any links you click on pages should open in new ungrouped tabs by default. You\u2019ll also see the \u201cOpen in new tab\u201d option when you long-tap a link.<\/p>\n
