Now, however, one of the biggest reasons to be hopeful about the project has walked out the door.\u00a0<em><strong>Minari<\/strong><\/em> director <strong>Lee Isaac Chung<\/strong>, previously announced to both direct and rewrite the latest draft of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>, has bowed out from helming the remake.<\/p>\n<p><!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->Per Deadline, those pesky and ever-present \u201cscheduling conflicts\u201d are to blame. This doesn\u2019t appear to be a sudden exit, as the report indicates that Paramount is already full speed ahead on filling Chung\u2019s shoes and has even made contact with several prospective replacements.<\/p>\n<p>The Best Picture-nominated\u00a0<em>Minari<\/em>, of course, im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely put Chung on the industry\u2019s radar in a big way and the Korean-American filmmaker was expected to draw from similar personal influences as <em>Minari<\/em> in bringing this <em>Your Name<\/em> reimagining to life. It\u2019s hard not to be reticent about the idea of an American remake, especially one that would apparently be made pointedly \u201cthrough the lens of a Western viewpoint.\u201d Shinkai\u2019s film works as well as it does precisely because it brings such a specific cultural insight into an otherwise universal story about fantastical, body-swapping romance.<\/p>\n<p>Few can doubt producer <strong>J.J. Abrams<\/strong> passion and love for the material, which is why his studio Bad Robot made such a strong offer for the rights to the film when it was first made available in 2017. But especially considering the successful filmmaker\u2019s overwhelmingly reverent approach to the influences behind many of his films, it has to be asked whether remaking this particular film is truly the best use of time and money and talent.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 -->Previous reports suggested that the setting for the remake would move from Japan to America, involving a Native American girl and a Chicago-based boy experiencing a body-swap and ultimately falling in love. It\u2019s unknown whether the details of this story have been changed with either <strong>Emily V. Gordon\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>The Big Sick<\/em>) rewrites or Chung\u2019s, to say nothing of whatever adjustments are made with whoever is picked as Chung\u2019s replacement now.
