Netflix\u2019s<\/a> wild new dating show \u201cSexy Beasts,\u201d out Wednesday, hides sexy singles under pounds of makeup and prosthetics, disguising their app<\/a>earances in order to test if they can make lasting connections based on personality alone.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone\u2019s [appearance is] the first thing you see. So obviously everyone just goes based on looks to start with. That\u2019s probably where I was going wrong,\u201d Martha, a dater disguised as a deer, told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPersonality is such a big thing, it\u2019s so important in comparison. So that\u2019s why I thought it would be good to do the show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Each half-hour episode of \u201cSexy Beasts\u201d features one person going on dates with three different potential love interests, who are identified by their actual first name and creature disguise, e.g., Martha the Deer or Emma the Demon. The central dater \u2014 who also dons an elaborate outfit reminiscent of \u201cThe Masked Singer\u201d \u2014 eliminates one of their three options after the first round of dates, then chooses between the remaining two contestants after another rendezvous. <\/p>\n

Each person is \u201cunmasked\u201d after their elimination, to show what they really look like.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this show, everyone looks as weird as possible,\u201d comedia<\/a>n Rob Delaney<\/a> \u2014 who narrates \u201cSexy Beasts\u201d \u2014 says in the introduction. \u201cSo, could you fall in love with someone based on personality alone? And will you still feel that way when you see their real face? Welcome to the strangest blind date ever!\u201d<\/p>\n

Martha is a 22-year old event planner from Southampton, England, who appears as one of the choices in the episode where \u201cKelechi the Rooster\u201d is the central dater. Kelechi is a pharmacy student from Knoxville, Tennessee, and as his name suggests, his disguise involves feathers and a comb. <\/p>\n

Martha admitted that the animal disguises were \u201cdistracting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like, you\u2019re not talking to a person, you\u2019re talking to a rooster. You\u2019re looking at the details in the mask, in everything \u2026 But we had good conversations,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Martha is 5-foot-11, and admits that her \u201ctype\u201d is the typical \u201ctall, dark and handsome.\u201d On-screen, Kelechi\u2019s costume doesn\u2019t hide the fact that checks at least one of those boxes \u2014 he\u2019s tall. But Martha said it wouldn\u2019t have been a problem for her if he wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

\u201cI usually go for taller guys because I like wearing heels, but I would go for someone shorter. I kept trying to work out what he looked like \u2026 But we got along well, so I wasn\u2019t too worried.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Emma, a 22-year-old model from New York, donning a demon disguise was liberating. <\/p>\n

\u201cFor me personally, I gained a lot of confidence with my mask. I don\u2019t know if that\u2019s what the people I dated experienced as well, but I felt a lot more comfortable showing my personality. It definitely got us at that point where we could get to know each other more deeply and talk about things we\u2019d normally never talk about on a first or second date,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

For instance, on a normal first date sans wild makeup, she\u2019d discuss \u201cbasic things\u201d such as jobs and interests, but on \u201cSexy Beasts,\u201d she felt comfortable talking about her relationship goals. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat surprised me was just how fun and easy dating can be when you let your guard down,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
