If you haven\u2019t been thirsting over his Instagram <\/strong>uploads lately, you may not have noticed\u00a0Dax<\/strong> Shepard<\/strong> spent his quarantine getting absolutely jacked!! In Monday\u2019s episode of Armchair Expert<\/em>, which featured guests Ashton Kutcher<\/strong> and Mila Kunis<\/strong>, the Parenthood<\/em> alum finally admitted why!<\/p>\n

Addressing the unique inspiration behind his recent fitness journey, the podcast host explained:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn quarantine, I said to Kristen<\/strong> [Bell<\/strong>], I\u2019ve been waiting for 10 years for Marvel<\/strong> to call so that I\u2019d have an excuse to get huge. And they\u2019re not gonna call. That ship sailed. I\u2019m 46, they\u2019re not gonna call. So I just have to do it for my own amusement.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hey, that\u2019s not necessarily true!\u00a0Robert Downey Jr.<\/strong> was 43 when\u00a0Iron Man<\/em> came out,\u00a0Benedict Cumberbatch<\/strong> was 40 when he became\u00a0Doctor Strange<\/em>, and now\u00a0Angelina Jolie<\/strong> is about to make her debut in\u00a0Eternals<\/em> at 46. So it\u2019s not unheard of for Marvel to hire actors in his age range.<\/p>\n

But he no longer needs the studio to make him go beast mode. The actor revealed he quickly surpassed his long-standing weight of 185 pounds during training, explaining:<\/p>\n

\u201cI gained about 24 pounds, just six days a week, just lifting heavy [weights], protein shakes, going bananas, heavy testosterone injections.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Of course, his famous friends cautioned him against the use of testosterone injections \u2014 especially knowing the dad of two\u2019s addiction struggles. He didn\u2019t seem phased, adding:<\/p>\n

\u201cMentally I love it because it makes me far more on fire to be alive. I was depressed after CHIPS<\/em>. I was literally retiring, that was the plan, I\u2019m out\u2026 This is the version [of me] I enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
