“#’Black Panther’ sequel casts Michaela Coel: report<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\u201cI May Destroy You\u201d creator and star Michaela Coel has been cast in Marvel Studios\u2019 upcoming \u201cBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Variety<\/a>, Coel joined the production at Atlanta\u2019s Pinewood Studios, where director Ryan Coogler started production last month. The sequel will premiere in theaters on July 8, 2022.<\/p>\n

Representatives for Marvel Studios and Coel did not immedia<\/a>tely return requests for comment from The Post.<\/p>\n

Just last week, London-born Coel, 33, was nominated for a 2021 Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Limited Series<\/a> or TV Movie for her HBO series, which at least partly fictionalized<\/a> her experience as a sexual assault survivor. (She was surprisingly snubbed by this year\u2019s Golden Globes.) Her prior credits also include the series \u201cChewing Gum\u201d and \u201cBlack Mirror,\u201d as well as the 2017 film \u201cStar Wars: The Last Jedi.\u201d <\/p>\n

Anticipation is high for the \u201cBlack Panther\u201d sequel following the shocking death of the original\u2019s star Chadwick Boseman, who died Aug. 28, 2020<\/a> of colon cancer. In the movie, he played King T\u2019Challa, a role that will reportedly not be recast and also will not app<\/a>ear in CGI form in the upcoming installment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s only one Chadwick and he\u2019s not with us,\u201d Victoria Alonso, a Marvel Studios executive producer,\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0Argentinian news<\/a>paper Clarin last fall,\u00a0according to a translation<\/a>\u00a0by the Wrap. \u201cOur king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to history and what we do to honor this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other cast members include returning stars Letitia Wright, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong\u2019o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett. <\/p>\n

The follow-up is one of several projects in the works from Coogler, including a television series for Disney+<\/a>. <\/p>\n
