“#DeAndre Hopkins, NFLers unhapp<\/a>y with COVID-19 forfeit rules<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Some of the NFL\u2019s star players aren\u2019t exactly on board with the league\u2019s new COVID-19 forfeit rules.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, NFL Network shared a memo from the league telling teams that game<\/a>s cannot be rescheduled due to a COVID-19 outbreak among unvaccinated players, and that teams will be forced to forfeit games with playoff seeding \u2014 and paycheck \u2014 implications.<\/p>\n

Some players were quick to voice their opinions on the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cNever thought I would say this, but being put in a position to hurt my team because I don\u2019t want to partake in the vaccine is making me question my future in the NFL,\u201d Arizona Cardinals receiver DeAndre Hopkins wrote in a quickly deleted tweet.<\/p>\n

Hopkins cited in another since-deleted post his girlfriend\u2019s brother, who the wideout says got the vaccine and \u201chad heart problems right after.\u201d<\/p>\n

Neither the league nor the NFL Players Association have mandated vaccines for players, instead agreeing to protocols that restrict the activities of players who have not received one.<\/p>\n

A reported 78 percent of NFL players have received at least one COVID-19 vaccination shot, according to the league.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re pleased with those numbers, but we\u2019re not satisfied. We want to see them continue to go up,\u201d NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills said on \u201cNFL NOW\u201d on Thursday. \u201cCertainly those rates are well above what we\u2019re seeing in the rest of society and certainly above the same age group as most of our players are. So a great head-start, more work to be done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hopkins, however, was far from the only voice to oppose the league memo.<\/p>\n

\u201cVaccine I can\u2019t do it,\u201d Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette tweeted and then deleted.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know 2 people right now who got the vaccine but are covid positive,\u201d Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey wrote on Twitter<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m just saying. I wouldn\u2019t look at a teammate as bad if he don\u2019t get the vax, no pressure from 5.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon needed even fewer words to get his sentiment across in his post:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NFLPA f\u2013king sucks.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
