{"id":306403,"date":"2021-07-22T22:14:52","date_gmt":"2021-07-22T19:14:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/norway-mourns-77-dead-a-decade-after-extremist-attack\/"},"modified":"2021-07-22T22:14:52","modified_gmt":"2021-07-22T19:14:52","slug":"norway-mourns-77-dead-a-decade-after-extremist-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/norway-mourns-77-dead-a-decade-after-extremist-attack\/","title":{"rendered":"#Norway mourns 77 dead a decade after extremist attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Norway mourns 77 dead a decade after extremist attack<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>OSLO, Norway \u2014 Church bells rang out across Norway on Thursday, marking 10 years since the country\u2019s worst ever peacetime slaughter as leaders urged their country to fight the extremism that was behind the attack.<\/p>\n<p>On July 22, 2011, right-wing extremist Anders Breivik set off a bomb in the capital, Oslo, killing eight people, before heading to tiny Utoya island where he stalked and shot dead 69 mostly teen members of the Labor Party\u2019s youth wing.<\/p>\n<p>Events were held around the country, including a service in Oslo Cathedral that ended with the first peal of bells. He misused Christian symbols. He grew up in our streets, belonged to the same religion and had the same skin color as the majority in this country. He was one of us,\u201d Stoltenberg said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut he is not one of us, who respects democracy. Roeyneland now runs the national support group for victims and families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat would those who were so brutally and unfairly killed think of us now 10 years later? I think they would be sad to know that there still are survivors and bereaved with great needs,\u201d Roeyneland said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they would be dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointed in seeing the public debate in many ways has moved in the wrong direction,\u201d she added. \u201cI also think they would be proud of us. Because 10 years on, we must speak the truth. We haven\u2019t stopped the hatred. Far-right extremism is still alive. The terrorist was one of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She was speaking to a group of mourners, including Crown Prince Haakon, Prime Minister Erna Solberg, survivors and families of the victims.<\/p>\n<p>Solberg said it hurt to think back \u201con that dark July day\u201d and added: \u201cWe must not leave hate unchallenged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe terror attack on the 22nd of July was an attack on our democracy,\u201d Solberg, Norway\u2019s prime minister since 2013, said. \u201cIt was a politically motivated terrorist act towards the Labor Party, AUF and their ideas. But it wasn\u2019t just an attack on a political movement. A whole nation was struck. But we rose again.
