Today, we\u2019re watching a video essay on the format and structure of Bo Burnham\u2019s comedy special Inside.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>However you feel about\u00a0<strong><em>Bo Burnham: Inside<\/em><\/strong><em>,\u00a0<\/em>you must admit: the acclaimed Netflix comedy special definitely feels like the most significant piece of mainstream pandemic art.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, there have been other creative efforts over the course of COVID-19 to gr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>le both practically and narratively with the effects of lockdown. But <em>Inside\u00a0<\/em>feels different. Filmed, edited, written, and performed by comedian\/actor\/director <strong>Bo Burnham<\/strong> from the confines of his guesthouse, the subject matter of <em>Inside <\/em>is sure to strike a nerve. This isn\u2019t an especially \u201cfunny\u201d comedy special. But that\u2019s not necessarily a bad thing.<\/p>\n<p><em style=\"font-size: 1.14285rem;\">Inside\u2019<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 1.14285rem;\">s anxieties are blunt and unambiguous. And while critiques of commodified activism, glorifying the ultra-rich, and (sigh) the inability of boomers to navigate FaceTime aren\u2019t exactly <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 1.14285rem;\">cutting edge <\/em><span style=\"font-size: 1.14285rem;\">ideas, their pervasive presence in our lives makes them relatable nonetheless. The more nuanced and personal wrinkles in the special are more compelling and trickier to parse. Namely: Burnham\u2019s admission that the layered artifice of digital life is having an adverse effect on his mental wellbeing. Again, this isn\u2019t a novel thesis. But, as the following video essay explains, it\u2019s one that Burnham expresses in a distinctly novel way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a wildly impressive move, the video essay mirrors <em>Inside<\/em>\u2018s vignettes and aesthetics to unpack what exactly Burnham is doing from a formal perspective. The essay hits on a variety of topics from <em>Inside<\/em>\u2018s groundbreaking articulation of \u201cinternet video\u201d cinematography to the special\u2019s overarching concern with authenticity and artful staging.
