The director, who previously created sequel magic in 2018 with his direct follow-up to 1978\u2019s\u00a0<em><strong>Halloween<\/strong><\/em>, is at it again. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesradar.com\/au\/exorcist-reboot-director-david-gordon-green-says-the-movie-will-be-a-sequel-to-the-original\/\">In an interview with Total Film<\/a>, Green shared all of the details on his\u00a0<em>Exorcist<\/em> sequel, and why fans of existing sequels shouldn\u2019t fret.<\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-488622 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Halloween-reboot-photos-700x300.jpg\" alt=\"Halloween reboot photos\" width=\"700\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Halloween-reboot-photos.jpg 700w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Halloween-reboot-photos-360x154.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Not_Erasing_the_Past_but_Adding_to_It\"><\/span>Not Erasing the Past, but Adding to It<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Back in June, producer\u00a0<strong>Jason Blum<\/strong> shared that he had faith Green could pull off his\u00a0<em>Halloween<\/em> miracle on <em>The Exorcist<\/em> as well.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->\u201c[It\u2019s] going to be like David [Gordon Green]\u2019s <em>Halloween<\/em> sequel,\u201d Blum told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denofgeek.com\/movies\/the-exorcist-sequel-be-like-2018-halloween-reboot\/\">Den of Geek.<\/a> \u201cI think it\u2019s going to pleasantly surprise all the skeptics out there. We had a lot of skeptics about Halloween and David turned them around, and I think he\u2019s going to turn it around with <em>The Exorcist<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Green wants fans to know that he\u2019s not interested in \u201cerasing\u201d the previous\u00a0<em>Exorcist<\/em> sequels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The Exorcist<\/em> has been written. That was one of my pandemic projects. It\u2019s not inaccurate [that it will be a sequel to the original film]. I like all the <em>Exorcist<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a>,\u201d Green said. \u201cAnd not only do I like them, I think they can all fall into the acceptable mythology for what I\u2019m doing. It\u2019s not like I\u2019m saying, \u2018Pretend that <em>The Exorcist 2<\/em> never h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened.\u2019 That\u2019s fine to exist. They\u2019re all fine to exist, and I enjoy all of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Because of his love for the franchise, Green is being careful to ensure he gives fans the best\u00a0<em>Exorcist\u00a0<\/em>sequel possible. Even if that means a ton of research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s another fun legacy to be a part of, and hopefully we\u2019ll get that going in the near future. That one is a lot of research, rather than just impulsive screenwriting,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s one that you talk to a lot of people. You read a lot of books, and do a shit-load of interviews. There was such a dramatic authenticity to what that original film is. It\u2019s a lot more than I anticipated getting into it. And I guess I was naive to think that. The Fox TV series, which ran for two seasons from 2016-2017, also served as a direct sequel to the 1973 <strong>William<\/strong> <strong>Friedken<\/strong> film. The series didn\u2019t reveal that it was a direct sequel until its fifth episode, so some fans never discovered the connection. While the series was canceled after its second season, it developed a dedicated following for its unique take on the subject matter.<\/p>\n<p>The 1973 <em>The Exorcist<\/em>\u00a0film was based on the <strong>William Peter Blatty<\/strong> novel of the same name. It starred\u00a0<strong>Linda Blair<\/strong> as a young girl who becomes possessed by a powerful demon. The movie is considered a horror classic, spawning four sequel and prequel films.
