“#NYPD cracks down on Brooklyn prostitution market after Post expos\u00e9<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Police moved in on Brooklyn\u2019s open-air prostitution market \u2014 arresting 11 men and seizing nine vehicles \u2014 following last week\u2019s front-page Post expos\u00e9 on the brazen enterprise, authorities said Friday.<\/p>\n

The NYPD operation on Thursday night targeted men driving along the four-block industrial stretch in East New York seeking sex, law-enforcement sources said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrooklyn residents pointed out prostitution problems in East New York \u2014 and the NYPD acted,\u201d the NYPD said in a statement<\/a> on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The sting reflected \u201cour efforts to stop those who buy and promote sex for sale in NYC,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n

Ten men were nabbed for allegedly patronizing a person for prostitution, and one man was arrested for driving while under the influence, cops said.<\/p>\n

The operation involved undercover female officers, according to the sources.<\/p>\n

The crackdown came after The Post reported on the heavily trafficked \u201cstroll,\u201d where a steady stream of scantily clad women \u2014 many of them likely trafficking victims under the thumb of nearby pimps \u2014 have openly enticed motorists for months amid lax enforcement.<\/p>\n

Current and former vice cops said there had been little incentive to make arrests, with the office of Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez moving away from prosecuting prostitution cases.<\/p>\n

Sex-trafficking experts have told The Post that targeting pimps and johns \u2014 not the women \u2014 is the surest way to undermine the industry. But busts for pimps and johns, who drive the sex trade, have also dropped significantly, data show. <\/p>\n

When asked about the Thursday\u2019s sting, a DA spokesman said the arrests were for solicitation, \u201can offense our office never stopped prosecuting.\u201d<\/p>\n

The spokesman reiterated the office\u2019s previous statement regarding its prosecution of prostitution cases.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the start of this year our office declined to prosecute a grand total of three prostitution-related arrests,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe have a Sex Trafficking Unit that vigorously prosecutes pimps and traffickers while working with service providers to get assistance to victims of trafficking.\u201d<\/p>\n
