“#LeVar Burton reveals ‘real challenge’ of guest hosting ‘Jeopardy!’<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll take challenging jobs for $1,000. <\/p>\n

Actor LeVar Burton says he\u2019s jumped out of airplanes and walked over hot coals.<\/p>\n

But little prepared him for the pressure of hosting \u201cJeopardy!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a real challenge,\u201d the actor told The Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Even his wife and makeup artist, Stephanie Cozart Burton, was not impressed by his initial effort.<\/p>\n

\u201cI came backstage after taping the first episode and I said to Stephanie, \u2018Well, how did I do?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cShe said, \u2018ehhh.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Burton, known for his roles in \u201cRoots,\u201d \u201cStar Trek: The Next Generation\u201d and \u201cReading Rainbow,\u201d is one of several celebrities openly vying to replace the iconic Alex Trebek as host of \u201cJeopardy!\u201d<\/p>\n

Trebek hosted the show from 1984 until his death in November 2020. Art Fleming led \u201cJeopardy!\u201d in the 1960s and 1970s and is the show\u2019s only other full-time host.<\/p>\n

Burton received just one day of rehearsal before taping five episodes in one day. Those shows will air this week, starting Monday. Other celebrities who have tried out for the job include Katie Couric, Dr. Mehmet Oz and Aaron Rodgers.<\/p>\n

Burton\u2019s effort to become the next full-time host was boosted by an online petition that generated more than 250,000 signatures.<\/p>\n

The show is much different once you get behind the podium, said Burton.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing at home, it feels like really relaxed half hour, but it\u2019s not relaxed at all,\u201d he said. \u201cYou can\u2019t let your focus drop for a nanosecond.\u201d<\/p>\n

His comfort level quickly improved after a tough first taping.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re not going to be smooth as Alex, let go of that. But what you can bring to the table is you. So that became my point of focus. And when it did, I started having fun.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
