\n Four days before her son was gunned down and her husband was wounded, New Jersey federal Judge Esther Salas was assigned to handle a class-action lawsuit from Deutsche Bank investors who claim the company failed to monitor \u201chigh-risk\u201d customers including late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n

The investors also claim in New Jersey federal district court that the bank made false and misleading statements about its anti-money-laundering policies.<\/p>\n

The complaint alleges that Deutsche Bank AG \u201cfailed to properly monitor customers that the Bank itself deemed to be high risk, including, among others, the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.\u201d<\/p>\n

Salas was assigned to handle the suit, which plaintiffs led by Ali Karimi filed in US District Court for the District of New Jersey on behalf of investors who bought securities from the bank between Nov. 7, 2017, and July 6, CNN reported.<\/p>\n

The company didn\u2019t inform the investors it hadn\u2019t fixed disclosure control problems \u2014 and wasn\u2019t keeping tabs on clients like the convicted sex offender and two other banks involved in previous financial misconduct scandals, according to Bloomberg Law.<\/p>\n

Adding Epstein \u2014 who committed suicide in his Manhattan jail cell last year as he awaited trial on sex-trafficking charges \u2014 as a client in 2013 \u201cwas a critical mistake and should never have happ<\/a>ened,\u201d Deutsche Bank said in a July 7 message to staff, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

A bank rep told Bloomberg News<\/a> it had spent almost $1 billion to improve anti-money-laundering controls.<\/p>\n

The New York state Department of Financial Services fined Deutsche Bank $150 million for \u201cneglecting to flag numerous questionable transactions from accounts associated with Epstein,\u201d Danske Estonia and FBME Bank, the complaint said, Bloomberg Law reported.<\/p>\n

In 2017, the bank \u201csignaled to investors\u201d that its since-departed general<\/a> counsel would \u201cfurther ensure\u201d its \u201cmitigation of its prior AML and other control function failures,\u201d the complaint said.<\/p>\n

Deutsche Bank warned investors of \u201cgeneric, boilerplate\u201d control risks but didn\u2019t disclose \u201crelationships with, and lax monitoring of, customers\u201d like Epstein that the company had \u201citself deemed to be high risk,\u201d according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The bank declined to comment on the lawsuit but said it had offered help to authorities immedia<\/a>tely after Epstein\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been fully transparent and have addressed these matters with our regulator, adjusted our risk tolerance and systematically tackled the issues,\u201d a spokesperson told Bloomberg Law.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur reputation is our most valuable asset and we deeply regret our association with Epstein,\u201d the rep added.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not linked the Sunday evening shooting \u2014 in which Salas was not hurt \u2014 to the Deutsche Bank case.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
