Is it going to be lucky Season 13 for Doctor Who<\/em><\/a>? It\u2019s certainly going to be an adventurous one, as the [email\u00a0protected]<\/span><\/a> panel did offer some teases about what to expect next from those travel<\/a>ing through space and time.<\/p>\n

Showrunner Chris Chibnall and stars Jodie Whittaker (the Thirteenth Doctor), Mandip Gill (Yaz), and John Bishop<\/a> (Dan) were joined by a very special surprise guest \u2014 Game of Thrones<\/em>\u2018<\/a> Jacob Anderson<\/a>, playing Vinder \u2014 and dropped a trailer and new images (below) for Season 13, which will premiere later this year on BBC America.<\/p>\n

Season 13 begins with the Doctor and Yaz mid-adventure when they stumble across Dan. What makes it different from past seasons is \u201cit\u2019s all one story. Every episode is a chapter in a bigger story,\u201d Chibnall revealed of what he\u2019s called \u201cthe biggest story we\u2019ve ever done.\u201d<\/p>\n

While they could\u2019ve done smaller episodes in one room due to COVID conditions, instead, \u201cwe\u2019re going to go to all kinds of different places, we\u2019re going to have all kinds of characters and monsters, and it\u2019s all going to be part of a bigger whole,\u201d he previewed. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely the most ambitious thing we\u2019ve done since we\u2019ve been on the series<\/a>. It\u2019s pretty epic and ambitious and we do go to a lot of places.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a result, \u201cquite a few of the amazing guest actors [this season] recur across multiple episodes, which is very unusual for the show,\u201d the showrunner noted. The only new character he could talk about was Anderson\u2019s Vinder (who\u2019s around \u201cquite a lot,\u201d according to Gill).<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a gorgeous actor. He\u2019s a brilliant human being,\u201d Chibnall said of Anderson, whom he and Whittaker worked with on Broadchurch<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI was thinking about this character and he was the first name who came to mind. I sort of wrote it for him and then pitched it to him \u2026 He has that humanity, that warmth, but he can also play an action hero and he makes you root for him and he breaks your heart. He\u2019s got the whole range.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very excited to be joining Doctor Who<\/em> Season 13 later this year, and I get to play one of my favorite people I\u2019ve ever played, Vinder,\u201d Anderson said in a message he recorded. \u201cThis is a real-life childhood dream to be a part of Doctor Who<\/em>.\u201d And in addition to feeling like he was 14 again by stepping into the TARDIS, \u201cI got my own ship, and my own ship had its own world of buttons and levers and switches you could actually press and actually play with,\u201d he teased.<\/p>\n

As for what else you can expect in Season 13, there will be monsters (of course), both new and old \u2014 and \u201cincredible interactions\u201d with the latter, Whittaker said \u2014 as well as plenty of shocks and cliffhangers, especially due to the nature of it telling one story.<\/p>\n
