“#Senators in infrastructure talks say deal could come this week<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\u200bThe leading Republican negotiator for the bipartisan infrastructure talks raised expectations Sunday that an agreement could be reached this week \u2014 even though lawmakers have hit a stumbling block over spending for public transit.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re about 90 percent of the way there \u2014 I feel good about getting that done this week,\u201d Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) said on ABC News\u2019 \u201cThis Week.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201c\u200bWe have one issue outstanding, and we\u2019re not getting much response from the Democrats on it,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s about mass transit. Our transit number is very generous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sen. Mark Warner, the top negotiator for Democrats, also shared \u200boptimism that a deal will be reached as early as Monday after settling some issues on how the $1.2 trillion package would be paid for.\u00a0\u200b<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re down to the last couple of items, and I think you\u2019re going to see a bill Monday afternoon\u200b,\u201d Warner (D-Va.) said on \u201cFox News Sunday.\u201d\u200b\u200b<\/a><\/p>\n

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he wanted to \u200bput the bipartisan infrastructure deal and a companion $3.5 trillion budget package up for a vote before the Senate leaves for the August recess.\u00a0\u200b<\/p>\n

The Democrats want to app<\/a>rove the infrastructure deal with bipartisan support, but get the spending bill OKed through reconciliation \u2014 a Senate procedure that would allow them to pass legislation with a simple majority in the narrowly divided 50-50 chamber and bypass Republicans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

All 50 GOP Senators shot down a procedural vote brought by Schumer last week that would have allowed the chamber to begin deliberating the bill \u2014 because the text hadn\u2019t been written yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Still, complicating the matter is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who on Sunday reiterated her vow not to allow the House to vote on infrastructure unless the Senate passed the $3.5 trillion spending bill first.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact is that the president has said he wants to have a bipartisan bill, and we all do, but that is not the limitation of the vision of the president,\u201d Pelosi,\u00a0\u200bof California, \u200bsaid\u200b on ABC News\u2019 \u201cThis Week.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u201cI won\u2019t put it on the floor until we have the rest of the initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her remarks didn\u2019t sit well with Portman.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not happy with what she said,\u201d he said later during his appearance on \u201cThis Week.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s inconsistent with the agreement that we have on a bipartisan basis.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes that mean we\u2019ll end up with nothing?\u201d host George Stephanopoulos asked Portman.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf she has her way, we could,\u201d Portman replied. \u201cI can\u2019t believe the speaker of the House would be blocking it.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
