“#Kanye West\u2019s New Album Donda Will Be Released August 6, A Rep Confirms<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Kanye West is moving the release of his long-awaited new album Donda<\/em> to August 6, a representative for West tells Pitchfork. Media<\/a> personality Justin Laboy<\/a> and West collaborator Malik Yusef<\/a> posted about the August release date last week; TMZ<\/a> also previously reported an August 6 release date. Donda<\/em> had been slated to come out on Friday, July 23, via G.O.O.D. Music<\/a> and Def Jam Recordings<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kanye West premiered Donda<\/em> during a listening event at Atlanta\u2019s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 22. The event streamed on App<\/a>le Music, too, and, according to TMZ<\/a>, it broke the Apple Music Global Livestream record, with 3.3 million viewers tuning in to watch.<\/p>\n

The album that West played in Atlanta featured his reunion with JAY-Z, plus contributions from Pop Smoke, Travis Scott, Pusha T, Baby Keem, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, and others. It also included \u201cNo Child Left Behind,\u201d which appeared in a new Beats ad starring Sha\u2019Carri Richardson. The Donda<\/em> event also reportedly<\/a> prompted the City of Atlanta to proclaim July 22 Kanye West Day.<\/p>\n

Donda<\/em> will follow Kanye West\u2019s 2019 solo album Jesus Is King<\/em>. On Christmas Day that year, West\u2019s Sunday Service Choir released Jesus Is Born<\/em>, an album of gospel music that West executive produced. His previous solo record Ye<\/em> arrived in 2018 and was followed by Kids See Ghosts<\/em>, a collaboration with Kid Cudi. That same year, West famously executive produced records by Teyana Taylor (K.T.S.E.<\/em>), Nas (Nasir<\/em>), and Pusha T (Daytona<\/em>).<\/p>\n

In the months between releasing Kids See Ghosts<\/em> and Jesus Is King<\/em>, West teased and eventually announced the release of an album called Yandhi<\/em>. The initial release date was confirmed as September 29, but the record never materialized. Yandhi<\/em> then faced more postponements and setbacks. West eventually took to Twitter to say: \u201cI realize the new album I\u2019ve been working on isn\u2019t ready yet. I\u2019ll announce the release date once it\u2019s done. Thank you for understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

While West\u2019s album appeared to be shelved, the rapper ventured into the world of opera, debuting two pieces\u2014Nebuchadnezzar<\/em> and Mary<\/em>\u2014in 2019. He also travel<\/a>ed the country with his Sunday Service choir, performing at Coachella and numerous venues around the States.<\/p>\n

Kanye West began 2020 with his Yeezy Season 8 fashion show. Later, in June, he released the single \u201cWash Us in the Blood,\u201d featuring Travis Scott, and teased another album titled God\u2019s Country<\/em>. West appeared to abandon God\u2019s Country<\/em> and, instead, said he\u2019d be releasing a record called Donda: With Child<\/em> (or Donda<\/em>) one year ago. No album was released. Amid the promise of music (and the actual release of the songs \u201cNah Nah Nah\u201d and \u201cNah Nah Nah (Remix)\u201d), West mounted his long-promised and ultimately ill-fated presidential campaign.<\/p>\n

This past February, it was reported that Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kanye West, whom she married in May 2014. (Kardashian was present<\/a> for the Donda<\/em> premiere in Atlanta.) The following month, West won the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for Jesus Is King<\/em>. More recently, West was featured on the posthumous Pop Smoke record Faith<\/em>. The track with West is called \u201cTell the Vision<\/a>,\u201d and, notably, one of West\u2019s Donda<\/em> tracklists featured a song of the same name.<\/p>\n
