Heather Locklear and Meghan McCain are not sweating the small stuff after signing on to the latest Lifetime movie, based on the life of author Kristine Carlson.<\/p>\n

Locklear, 59, known for \u201cMelrose Place,\u201d and McCain, 36, are teaming for the network\u2019s upcoming movie \u201cDon\u2019t Sweat the Small Stuff: The Kristine Carlson Story,\u201d with Locklear in the starring role and McCain as executive producer.<\/p>\n

The biopic tells the story of Carlson, who co-authored several titles of her late husband\u00a0Dr. Richard Carlson\u2019s best-selling book series<\/a> \u201cDon\u2019t Sweat the Small Stuff<\/a>.\u201d When he suddenly dies, Kristine struggles to cope with overwhelming grief and raising her two children alone, while dealing with the self-help empire he left behind. Kristine continues to uphold her husband\u2019s legacy and through self-discovery, she truly learns to not sweat the small stuff.<\/p>\n

First published in 1997, the New York Times best-selling series has sold over 25 million copies. The inspirational nine-book series served as a guide to help readers to put difficult challenges into perspective and \u201ckeep the little things from taking over your life.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is Locklear\u2019s first acting role since app<\/a>earing in an episode of ABC\u2019s \u201cFresh Off the Boat\u201d in 2017. The actress is turning over a new leaf after celebrating one year of sobriety <\/a>last April following an assault-related arrest in 2018 and a visit to a psychiatric facility<\/a> for her mental health the following year.<\/p>\n

This is also McCain\u2019s first project since leaving her hosting role on \u201cThe View\u201d<\/a> earlier this month. In addition to \u201cThe View,\u201d she\u2019s served as a producer on several television shows, including Fox\u2019s \u201cOutnumbered\u201d and \u201cMoms.\u201d McCain tweeted about shaking things up professionally after announcing her departure from the popular talk show July 1.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo much chatter, so much gossip, so many, many, many questions people are asking me this past week\u2026\u201d she\u00a0wrote\u00a0in a now-deleted post on Twitter<\/a>, according to People<\/a>. \u201cI pride myself on always taking big risks, rolling the dice, and making unpredictable life and career choices. I\u2019ve never fit in a box and I never will.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richard Carlson will be played by \u201cThe Vampire Diaries\u201d star Jason MacDonald. Natasha Bure will play the couple\u2019s daughter. Emily Rose is also set to star. Mark Teitelbaum\u00a0will executive produce alongside McCain with Ellen S. Pressman\u00a0directing. The film is scheduled to begin shooting shortly in Nashville, Tennessee, and premiere on Lifetime later this year.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
