Oscar Isaac leads the film, playing a former military man who clearly did some terrible things in his past. Now he\u2019s a card counter and gambler, drifting around with slicked-back hair and using that patented Schrader voice-over narration.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the official synopsis:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Redemption is the long <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> in Paul Schrader\u2019s THE CARD COUNTER. Told with Schrader\u2019s trademark cinematic intensity, the revenge thriller tells the story of an ex-military interrogator turned gambler haunted by the ghosts of his past decisions.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That\u2019s very vague! But that\u2019s okay \u2013 I\u2019m willing to let\u00a0<em>The Card Counter<\/em> keep its secrets until the time is right. The film will have its\u00a0world premiere at the 2021 Venice Film Festival in September, where it will be competing for prizes like the Golden Lion. It\u2019s Schrader\u2019s first feature since his excellent\u00a0<em>First Reformed<\/em>, so there\u2019s bound to be a lot of attention heaped onto this thing. Then you have to take into account Schrader himself. The filmmaker is surprisingly active on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a>, and he\u2019s also prone to saying some\u2026uh\u2026controversial things (just google it, I\u2019m not going to repeat it here). I guess the question some people have to ask is: can we separate the art from the artist here? Schrader wrote the scripts for Scorsese\u2019s\u00a0<em>Taxi Driver<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Raging Bull<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Last Temptation of Christ<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Bringing Out the Dead<\/em>. And according to Schrader, Scorsese was one of the people who helped shape\u00a0<em>The Card Counter<\/em>. The filmmaker said he screened the film virtually for several people, including Scorsese. \u201cI asked them all, \u2018I have four more scenes to shoot. I can rewrite them. What am I missing? What do I need to add? How should I write these four scenes?&#8217;\u201d Schrader <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2020\/09\/martin-scorsese-paul-schrader-the-card-counter-pandemic-1234585988\/\">recalled<\/a>. \u201cI was able to rewrite these scenes and make these relationships much better.
