You\u2019ll then see your Home screen in the larger area, and you can swipe to a different screen if you wish.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-742739\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/EnterSplitView-iPadOS15.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Select an app for split view\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Tap the app that you want to open along with the other in split view.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-742740\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/NewSplitView-iPadOS15.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Split view on iPad\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This allows you to locate the app that you need on another screen, in a folder, or even in your Dock.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Create_a_Split_View_in_the_App_Switcher\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_2\">Create a Split View in the App Switcher<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Another terrific method for entering Split View, in addition to the Multitasking Menu, is in the App Switcher.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/666261\/how-to-open-and-use-the-app-switcher-on-an-ipad\/\">Open the App Switcher, select and hold the app that you want to create a Split View with, and then drag it to the second app that you want to use. Release when the first app is on the left or right side of the second app, per your preference. In the screenshot below, we have Notes and Mail in Split View and we\u2019re dragging Google up to replace Notes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-742742\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/AppSwitcherChangeSplitView-iPadOS15.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Change split view in the App Switcher\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>When you know ahead of time that you want to use Split View with two open apps, the App Switcher makes it easy!<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"View_the_Shelf_of_Open_App_Windows\"><\/span>View the Shelf of Open App Windows<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As you probably already know, you can <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/441373\/how-to-use-multiple-windows-of-an-app-on-your-ipad\/\">have multiple windows of a single app open at once on iPad. Great examples include Mail and Notes. Since the iPadOS 15 upgrade, you can switch between open windows of the same app using the Shelf.<\/p>\n<p>The Shelf displays at the bottom of the app and holds the additional windows you have open for it. In this example, we have several notes open in addition to the main notes window. You can quickly see or do what you need to in that center view without navigating away from what you were doing initially.<\/p>\n<p>Press and hold something like a note in Notes or an email in Mail.
