“#NYT reporter Katie Benner deletes tweets berating Trump supporters<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

A New York Times reporter deleted a tweet that called supporters of former President Trump \u201cenemies of the state,\u201d following a viral blowback online.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s #January6SelectCommittiee underscores the America\u2019s current essential natsec dilemma: Work to combat legitimate national security threats now entails calling a current politician\u2019s supporters enemies of the state,\u201d Katie Benner posted Tuesday morning, according to a screenshot shared by Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Americans, we believe that state power should not be used to work against a political figure or a political party. But what happ<\/a>ens if a politician seems to threaten the state? If the politician continues to do so out of office and his entire party supports that threat?,\u201d the thread reportedly continued.<\/p>\n

The DOJ scribe then suggested that since Congress left the investigation into the Republican\u2019s alleged collusion with Russia and two impeachments \u201cunresolved,\u201d lawmakers could not be trusted to probe the deadly riot at the Capitol.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat leaves it up to voters, making even more essential free, fair access to the polls,\u201d Benner wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About eight hours later, the tweet and its thread were deleted and referenced by a post by Benner that read<\/a>: \u201cI deleted unclearly worded tweets regarding the Jan 6. committee hearing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Benner did not further clarify why she deleted the tweet, or if she did so at the news<\/a>paper\u2019s demand.<\/p>\n

Her comments were slammed by critics, including prominent journalists and lawmakers.<\/p>\n
