CNN anchor Don Lemon ripped the man who accosted Tucker Carlson in a Montana fly fishing shop, saying he had no right to invade the Fox News<\/a> host\u2019s \u201cpersonal space.\u201d<\/p>\n

The liberal Lemon offered his surprising take during his CNN program \u201cDon Lemon Tonight\u201d Monday evening, when he devoted an entire segment to addressing the weekend encounter, which he said put him in a position \u201cto maybe somehow have to defend Tucker Carlson.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me tell you this: I don\u2019t like it. I don\u2019t like it when people do that because I would not want it to happ<\/a>en to me,\u201d Lemon began after showing a snippet of the video, going on to caution, \u201cI have mixed emotions because Tucker has done this to people before. Tucker said some really nasty and silly things about me, and the next day there\u2019s paparazzi in front of my house, hiding, taking pictures.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lemon continued: \u201cWe\u2019re all on TV, we\u2019ve been approached. We hear good things, we hear bad things from people. We don\u2019t even know who they are, it\u2019s part of the gig. Don\u2019t you think this went a little too far, though?\u201d<\/p>\n

But CNN commentator Ana Navarro then defended the man who accosted Carlson, identified as Dan Bailey, saying she had been through similar experiences and that the Fox personality should be understanding given his sometimes heated rhetoric. <\/p>\n

\u201cDeal with it,\u201d she suggested, noting these individuals\u2019 First Amendment right to approach them.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I don\u2019t think that should happen to you, Ana. I don\u2019t think that should happen to [CNN star] Chris [Cuomo]. I don\u2019t think it should happen to me,\u201d Lemon replied, noting similar experiences his cable news colleagues have faced. <\/p>\n

\u201cYour First Amendment right doesn\u2019t mean invading my personal space, I\u2019m sorry, Ana, I understand what you\u2019re saying and I get it. I think that what Tucker says much, much of the time is completely reprehensible and divorced from reality, but he has a right to be in a space and not be accosted and not be ambushed by anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople yell all the time at me,\u201d he added, referencing a visit to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he said that \u201cthere were Trump supporters out there yelling across whatever. They weren\u2019t in my face. So if you want to stand across the street, fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

The brief video, taken over the weekend, showed a man confronting the \u201cTucker Carlson Tonight\u201d host as he shopped for fishing gear with his family at Dan Bailey\u2019s Outdoor Co. in Livingston,\u00a0Mont., which said afterward that it was not affiliated with the man who confronted Carlson.<\/p>\n

Bailey, who posted the footage Friday, accused Carlson in an accompanying post of \u201ckill[ing]\u201d people with vaccine misinformation and supporting \u201cextreme racism.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the 22-second clip, Carlson can be heard politely responding to Bailey by saying, \u201cI appreciate that\u201d and then laughing when he realizes that he is being filmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cSettle down, son,\u201d Carlson says, before he begins to walk away, as a stunned Bailey retorts, \u201cSon? Don\u2019t call me son\u201d and follows.<\/p>\n

As for how he deals with strangers approaching him, Lemon said: \u201cMy response is always, \u2018Thank you, thank you for watching. I\u2019m so glad. Thank you so much, I appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you,\u2019 even if they say the worst things about me, because I really just want to defuse it and I want them to go away. \u201c<\/p>\n

\u201cI know people have a right, I\u2019m on TV. I get my point of view and I say my take all the time. And so I understand it is going to happen, but do I like it? No.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
