What a snake.<\/p>\n

A vandal defaced a Medusa statue that stands as a tribute to the #MeToo movement in Manhattan \u2014\u00a0causing thousands of dollars in damage for the second time in recent months, The Post has learned.<\/p>\n

The destructive jerk snapp<\/a>ed a bronze sword off the 1000-pound Greek mythological figure, who is depicted clutching a severed head in a park across from Manhattan Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very upsetting,\u201d said\u00a0Vanessa Solomon, who molded the statue designed by Argentine-Italian artist Luciano Garbati.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe statue is symbolic and what comes to mind is that an angry man did it \u2014 that this sculpture represents what he\u2019s mad about,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

In Greek mythology, Medusa was raped by the powerful God Poseidon, blamed for it \u2014 then turned into a monstrous beast with a head of snakes and a gaze that turned men to stone.<\/p>\n

First created in 2008, the sculpture took on new meaning during the #MeToo movement and was installed last year \u2014 just feet from the courthouse where Harvey Weinstein was convicted.<\/a><\/p>\n

The vandal struck in early June, on the heels of an incident where the sword was torn off in the spring, Solomon said.<\/p>\n

It took six weeks to recast the weapon and reinstall a thicker version to ward off vandals\u2014 only to have it ripped off again,\u00a0 she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to wonder if it was the same person,\u201d she said. \u201cThe public was very upset.\u201d<\/p>\n

An new, even-thicker version of the sword \u2014 secured with a steel rod \u2014 was partially installed at the site on Wednesday and is expected to be completed by the end of the week.<\/p>\n

Solomon said she wants the troublemaker who damaged it to use words instead of violence, if he or she is trying to make a statement.<\/p>\n
