Scarlett Johansson elicited a fiery response when she said she would be suing Disney for allegedly breaching her contract from both the media<\/a> giant and fans \u2014 but Hollywood is mum.<\/p>\n

The House of Mouse decided to release \u201cBlack Widow\u201d\u00a0on its Disney+<\/a> streaming service at the same time that it premiered in theaters, a move she claimed cost her millions.<\/p>\n

Disney responded to the suit Thursday, writing<\/a>: \u201cThere is no merit whatsoever to this filing. The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic \u2026 Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson\u2019s contract and furthermore, the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johansson\u2019s \u201cAvengers\u201d co-stars and Hollywood peers app<\/a>ear to be silent at the moment, seemingly not showing any support despite the \u201cwoke\u201d move. However, fans, unhappy upon her announcement, have now sounded off in disgust on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t care how rich Scarlett Johansson already is. She was f\u2013ked over through a breach of contract and she should sue,\u201d one fan tweeted<\/a>. \u201cYou can\u2019t really claim that you support professional women to demand what they\u2019re worth and promised and then be like, \u2018except her, she\u2019s doing fine as is.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf @Disney can backstab Scarlett Johansson after working with her for 10 years, there\u2019s no telling how they gonna screw over y\u2019alls new favorites. #BoycottDisney<\/a>,\u201d a ScarJo fan page account added<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Another angry fan chimed in<\/a>: \u201cScarlett Johansson isn\u2019t being greedy here. By releasing \u2018Black Widow\u2019 on Disney+, then not counting that revenue towards her expected salary, as is done with Box Office tickets, Disney tried to screw her out of what she was owed. F\u2013k Disney.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others seemed to disagree.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot y\u2019all feeling bad for Scarlett Johansson????? The same woman who stood by [Harvey] Weinstein???? The same yt woman who constantly takes roles from POC\/LGBT+ ???? Can\u2019t be,\u201d one user tweeted<\/a>, noting how she pulled out of a film where she would play a trans person<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Johansson, 36, has been vocal in the past about the way her Marvel character was treated like a \u201cpiece of ass\u201d in past films. July\u2019s \u201cBlack Widow\u201d is her Natasha Romanoff character\u2019s standalone origin story. The actress, who is married to \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d star Colin Jost<\/a>, has revealed her contempt for the hypersexualization of her character.<\/p>\n

During a 2019 discussion during a press visit to the set of the flick, the \u201cMarriage Story\u201d star explained, \u201cI mean, you look back at\u00a0\u2018Iron Man 2\u2019\u00a0and while it was really fun and had a lot of great moments in it, the character is so sexualized, you know? Really talked about like she\u2019s a piece of something, like a possession or a thing or whatever \u2014 like a piece of ass, really. And Tony [Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr.] even refers to her as something like that at one point. What does he say?\u00a0\u2018I want some.\u2019 \u201c\n <\/p><\/div>\n
