Amanda Knox lashed out at the new Matt Damon film \u201cStillwater\u201d \u2014 claiming the movie profits off her real-life struggle for a wrongful murder conviction.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old lamented how her name continues to be associated with a killing she didn\u2019t commit \u2013 and is now linked to a film she had no part in making.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes my name belong to me?\u201d she wrote in a Thursday tweet storm<\/a>. \u201cMy face? What about my life? My story? Why does my name refer to events I had no hand in? I return to these questions because others continue to profit off my name, face & story without my consent. Most recently, the film #STILLWATER<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n

Knox also took issue with the fictionalized character she now feels associated with because the film\u2019s ending veers from actual events in a sinister twist.<\/p>\n

Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were twice convicted and later acquitted in the 2007 killing of Knox\u2019s roommate Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy. Although \u201cStillwater\u201d largely fictionalizes the case, director Tom McCarthy has said Knox\u2019s case inspired the storyline and reviews and promos of the film have noted the premises\u2019 similarity to what happ<\/a>ened to Knox.<\/p>\n

The exoneree took issue with a Vanity Fair article<\/a> that referred to the case as \u201cthe Amanda Knox saga.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to pause right here on that phrase: \u2018the Amanda Knox saga,\u2019\u201d Knox said. \u201cWhat does that refer to? Does it refer to anything I did? No.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt refers to the events that resulted from the murder of Meredith Kercher by a burglar named Rudy Guede,\u201d she went on.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt refers to the shoddy police work, prosecutorial tunnel vision, and refusal to admit their mistakes that led the Italian authorities to wrongfully convict me, twice. In those four years of wrongful imprisonment and 8 years of trial, I had near-zero agency.<\/p>\n

Knox shared a headline from The Post that read \u201cMan who killed Amanda Knox\u2019s roommate freed on community service\u201d as an example of how her name continues to be tied to the killing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would love nothing more than for people to refer to the events in Perugia as \u2018The murder of Meredith Kercher by Rudy Guede,\u2019 which would place me as the peripheral figure I should have been, the innocent roommate,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I know that my wrongful conviction, and subsequent trials, became the story that people obsessed over,\u201d she went on. \u201cI know they\u2019re going to call it the \u2018Amanda Knox saga\u2019 into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

She then requested that people be conscious of how they discuss the events \u2013 and recognize that it\u2019s not her choice that the focus remains on her.<\/p>\n

The exoneree also challenged director McCarthy and star Matt Damon to join her on her podcast \u201cLabyrinths.\u201d<\/p>\n

The character in \u201cStillwater\u201d is shown to have a sexual relationship with her roommate, while Knox said she was \u201cnothing but platonic friends\u2019 with Meredith, she said. And the movie\u2019s finale paints the character as \u201cthe tabloid conspiracy\u201d guiltier version of Knox, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy fictionalizing away my innocence, my total lack of involvement, by erasing the role of the authorities in my wrongful conviction, McCarthy reinforces an image of me as a guilty and untrustworthy person,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have not been allowed to return to the relative anonymity I had before Perugia,\u201d Knox said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy only option is to sit idly by while others continue to distort my character, or fight to restore my good reputation that was wrongfully destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Focus Features couldn\u2019t be reached Thursday night. The Post has reached out to Damon\u2019s publicist for comment.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
