There are concerns by scouts regarding West Virginia sophomore point guard Miles McBride\u2019s size and playmaking, and whether he will be an impact player in the NBA. That\u2019s why he fell out of the first round \u2014 to 36th overall, where the Knicks snapp<\/a>ed him up.<\/p>\n

The Post reported this week that coach Tom Thibodeau was pushing for McBride, who earned the nickname \u201cDeuce\u201d because of his toughness as a high school quarterback in Cincinnati.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see people ahead of him that I know he\u2019s better than,\u2019\u2019 West Virginia assistant coach Erik Martin told The Post this week. \u201cSome of those guys he\u2019s outplayed when we played them. He\u2019s 6-2, a former football player and a winner. He has toughness. He came in the door with that. Hopefully where he gets drafted is somewhere where he\u2019d play.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

The Knicks will try to find a starting point guard in free agency, but McBride could be the agitator they need, especially against their nemesis: the Hawks\u2019 Trae Young.<\/p>\n

McBride, averaged 15.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists as a sophomore. He shot 41.4 percent from 3-point range.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s questions about his position,\u2019\u2019 one scout said. \u201cIs he really a 1? Is he a small 2? Is he a real playmaker? He\u2019s a good defender, good athlete and makes plays, but is he a playmaker?\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

McBride played some shooting guard during the Big 12 season, but his NBA position will have to be point guard because of his size. McBride\u2019s wingspan \u2014 measured at 6-foot-8 \u00b3\/\u2084 \u2014 was tops among the gaggle of point guards measured at the NBA combine. McBride\u2019s surprising wingspan figure was due in part to his hands, which also measured largest among point guards.<\/p>\n

\u201cI definitely see myself having the ball in my hands,\u2019\u2019 McBride said at the combine. \u201cThat\u2019s what I feel comfortable as. But I also feel comfortable playing off the ball. My shotmaking ability is a huge part of my game<\/a>. And playing with another player who has the ball in his hands is something I can definitely do. I feel comfortable making decisions and having the ball in my hands. And being as competitive as I am, I feel I can find myself on a team contributing a lot of both.\u2019\u2019\n <\/p><\/div>\n
