Scarlett Johansson\u2019s $50 million contract dispute with Disney over her starring role in \u201cBlack Widow\u201d just got uglier, with her powerful Hollywood agent accusing the Mouse House of dirty tactics.<\/p>\n

Bryan Lourd, who is the co-chairman of talent agency CAA, called out the Mouse House on Friday for \u201cshamelessly and falsely\u201d accusing his client of being \u201cinsensitive\u201d to the pandemic and for publishing her pay package to the press \u201cin an attempt to weaponize her success as an artist and businesswoman.\u201d<\/p>\n

Late Thursday, Disney fired off a brutal statement after news<\/a> broke that the \u201cBlack Widow\u201d star filed a lawsuit claiming that her contract was breached when the media<\/a> giant released the superhero flick on its\u00a0Disney+ streaming service at the same time\u00a0it hit movie theaters.<\/p>\n

Sources told the Wall Street Journal<\/a> that the decision to put the blockbuster on Disney+ is likely to cost Johansson more than $50 million.<\/p>\n

Disney said the suit had \u201cno merit\u201d and that it \u201cis especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.\u201d In an uncharacteristic move, the buttoned-up company also disclosed that Johansson earned additional compensation on top of her $20 million salary from the movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have shamelessly and falsely accused Ms. Johansson of being insensitive to the global COVID pandemic, in an attempt to make her app<\/a>ear to be someone they and I know she isn\u2019t,\u201d Lourd said in a statement Friday.<\/p>\n

The agent, who represents megastars like Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Daniel Craig, said Johansson has been a great partner to Disney on nine movies<\/a>, earning the company and shareholders \u201cbillions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lourd likewise punched back at Disney for attempting to \u201cweaponize\u201d Johansson\u2019s \u201csuccess as an artist and businesswoman, as if that were something she should be ashamed of.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis suit was filed as a result of Disney\u2019s decision to knowingly violate Scarlett\u2019s contract,\u201d he said. \u201cThey have very deliberately moved the revenue stream and profits to the Disney+ side of the company, leaving artistic and financial partners out of their new equation. \u00a0That\u2019s it, pure and simple.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johansson\u2019s lawsuit claims that her contract with Disney\u2019s Marvel Entertainment guaranteed that \u201cBlack Widow\u201d would premiere exclusively in theaters and that her salary was based largely on how well the movie performed at the box office.<\/p>\n

The actress claims that she attempted to renegotiate her contract with Disney and Marvel to take streaming profits into account but was given the cold shoulder.<\/p>\n

During the pandemic, media giants like Comcast\u2019s NBCUniversal and\u00a0AT&T\u2019s WarnerMedia began prioritizing streaming services\u00a0over movie theaters, putting some of their buzziest new releases onto their streaming platforms.<\/p>\n
