Libertarian: Big Tech Widens Censorship<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tech giants have started \u201cpartnering with watchdog groups and law enforcement to share information about so-called extremists using their platforms,\u201d warns Reason\u2019s Robby Soave<\/a>. PayPal will work with the left-wing Anti-Defamation League to identify and block \u201cextremists,\u201d while the likes of Facebook<\/a>, Twitter and YouTube \u201cwill be expanding their use of a centralized database that compiles extremist content for the purposes of coordinated de-platforming.\u201d Beware: With these new capacities, \u201cinformation may eventually be shared with law enforcement.\u201d Private corporations may not be bound to follow the Constitution, but it\u2019s federal authorities that are encouraging these changes \u2014 and \u201cwe have the right to speak out against government encroachment.\u201d<\/p>\n

West Coast watch: Cali\u2019s Blue Staying Power<\/strong><\/p>\n

Based on the results of last November\u2019s ballot initiatives in California, you might think the Golden State \u201cis poised to make a turn to the right\u201d \u2014 but not necessarily, Nick Burns points out at City Journal<\/a>. Rather, the \u201cballot initiative has actually become an advantage\u201d for Democrats there. Nor are recall efforts, such as the one seeking to oust Gov. Gavin News<\/a>om (D), a surefire panacea for the right: Even if Newsom is replaced, for example, \u201cwith only a year left until fresh elections in 2022,\u201d his successor would have little time to prove his competence and might be \u201cvulnerable\u201d to the Dem\u2019s return. Like the ballot initiative, \u201cthe recall process does not seem to be the shortcut to overcoming the structural dominance of California Democrats that it may at first seem.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foreign desk: Dems\u2019 Losing Bet on Cuba<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no foreign-policy issue in the United States that is less \u2018foreign\u2019 than the Cuba policy,\u201d argues Carlos Gustavo Poggio Teixeira at The Hill<\/a>. The \u201ccase of Cuba is unique,\u201d because it\u2019s \u201cdirectly connected to the presidential elections. President Biden\u2019s response to protests roiling the island was \u201cmostly meaningless statements of solidarity\u201d and \u201ceven more meaningless \u2018individual sanctions\u2019 whose practical effects are exactly zero.\u201d Dems \u201cdo not know how to respond\u201d to their lost bet.<\/p>\n

Conservative: CRT Infiltrates DOE<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAmericans have a right to expect that the leader of public education\u2019s top civil-rights-enforcement body would unequivocally oppose racial discrimination,\u201d writes the American Enterprise Institute\u2019s Max Eden<\/a>. Too bad Catherine Lhamon, President Biden\u2019s pick to head the Department of Education\u2019s Office for Civil Rights, doesn\u2019t share that expectation. Lhamon \u201cdefined racism as the belief that race determines character traits,\u201d but then refused to definitively say whether it is racist for schools to grade differently, segregate students or shame them based on race. \u201cLhamon\u2019s refusal to admit that any of these obviously racist, illegal practices violates federal civil-rights law comes quite close to an admission that she will, at best, not enforce equal protection equally\u201d and, at worst, actively enforce critical race theory. But without any senators willing to question her in a public hearing, \u201cLhamon seems poised to take office, with reason to think she\u2019ll be subject to minimal oversight and, at most, muted criticism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liberal: Gender Insanity at Med School<\/strong><\/p>\n

At Bari Weiss\u2019 Substack, Katie Herzog reports<\/a> on an endocrinology professor in the University of California system begging his students to summon\u201d the \u201cgenerosity to forgive me.\u201d His crime? \u201cI said, \u2018When a woman is pregnant,\u2019 which implies that only women can get pregnant.\u201d Welcome to gender ideology\u2019s bizarro world: \u201cSome of the country\u2019s top medical students are being taught that humans are not, like other mammals, a species comprising two sexes. The notion of sex, they are learning, is just a man-made creation.\u201d <\/p>\n
