“#New Yankee Anthony Rizzo has \u2018roots\u2019 in New Jersey<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

MIAMI \u2014 Anthony Rizzo was born and raised in Florida, but as Jerry Lanzerotti, the owner of Lyndhurst Pastry Shop in Lyndhurst, N.J., said Friday, \u201cHis roots are here.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because Rizzo, who was traded from the Cubs to the Yankees on Thursday, spent many summers with family in the Garden State. His parents, John and Laurie, are both Lyndhurst natives.<\/p>\n

Rizzo, who went 2-for-3 with a key 449-foot homer in the Yankees\u2019 3-1 win over the Marlins, said of his trade that he was going \u201cfrom one historic franchise to another.\u201d<\/p>\n

He knows the Yankees well, having gone to game<\/a>s at the old Yankee Stadium as a kid, in between trip<\/a>s to the Jersey Shore, spending time with his grandparents and playing stickball in New Jersey.<\/p>\n

\u201cI spent pretty much every summer there as a kid,\u2019\u2019 Rizzo said. \u201cI have a lot of memories and I\u2019m looking forward to making more.\u201d<\/p>\n

His top moment in The Bronx came in 1999, when he attended David Cone\u2019s perfect game.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was lucky enough to be there for that,\u201d Rizzo said.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s one of the reasons he\u2019s looking forward to his first game at the new stadium.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be able to put the Yankee uniform on and play there is definitely special,\u2019\u2019 Rizzo said.<\/p>\n
