“#NYC mayoral candidate Eric Adams doubles down on far-left criticism<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Democratic Mayoral Candidate Eric Adams doubled down on his criticism of far-left politics in an interview aired Friday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a social<\/a>ist country, let\u2019s be clear on that,\u201d Adams said during an appearance<\/a> on HBO\u2019s \u201cReal Time with Bill Maher.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a country that believes in giving people the opportunities [so] that they will be able to succeed and excel in this country,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The former NYPD Captain has found himself at odds with the city\u2019s left-wing after saying in a campaign speech in Queens that he is running against the socialist \u201cmovement\u201d across the country, specifically naming the Democratic Socialists of America.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m no longer running against candidates. I\u2019m running against a movement. All across the country, the DSA socialists are mobilizing to stop Eric Adams,\u201d he had told the crowd.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey realize that if I\u2019m successful, we\u2019re going to start the process of regaining control of our cities.\u201d<\/p>\n

His remarks at the Monday fundraiser \u2014 which were caught on camera and exclusively reported by The Post \u2014 sparked cheers from attendees, but earned him a reprimand from other New York democrats, sources have said.<\/p>\n

On Maher\u2019s program Friday, Adams reaffirmed that the goal of his campaign is to combat the political divide surrounding law enforcement and restore public safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe see what\u2019s happ<\/a>ening in America. We see the demonization of public safety, which I believe is the prerequisite to prosperity,\u201d he said. \u201cWe see the demonization of those who are high-income earners.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adams said his \u201cpersonal journey\u201d had helped him see America as a land of opportunity. <\/p>\n

The Brooklyn borough president has often recalled how he was arrested and beaten by police officers when he was just 15, an ordeal he said inspired him to join the force.<\/p>\n

Maher, who said he quickly became a big fan of Adams as he pulled ahead and won the democratic primary, asked Adams if he is able to address more \u201ccommon sense\u201d issues than his white democratic colleagues, who Maher said \u201care so afraid of being called insufficiently anti-racist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adams responded saying he doesn\u2019t want New Yorkers to \u201csurrender\u201d to issues like rising crime and racial division.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t have to define ourselves by three-year-olds being shot in Times Square. We don\u2019t have to define ourselves [by] dividing ourselves on ethnicity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Adams touted the endorsements he received from both George Floyd\u2019s brother, Terrence Floyd, and the family of slain NYPD officer Wenjian Liu, who was shot and killed alongside his cop partner in a Brooklyn ambush in 2014.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was endorsed by someone who lost a family member to police misconduct and I was endorsed by the family members of someone [who] was killed in the line of duty,\u201d Adams told Maher. <\/p>\n

Adams vowed to \u201crebuild that trust\u201d between cops and the communities they serve, and said that, if elected, he would \u201cexpect a lot more from my police officers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am going to have the backs of my officers but they are going to have the backs of the people of this city they swore to serve and protect,\u201d he said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
