Google Duo is one of the easiest video chat app<\/a>s out there, but it\u2019s not only for video. You can make audio-only calls, too, and the sound quality is much better than a typical phone call\u2019s. We\u2019ll show you how.<\/p>\n

Like with video calls, the voice calling feature works on iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, and computers through a web browser. It\u2019s just a matter of choosing \u201cVoice\u201d instead of \u201cVideo\u201d when starting a call. We\u2019ll cover each of these platforms.<\/p>\n

Starting with mobile devices, first, open the Google Duo app on your iPhone<\/a>, iPad<\/a>, or Android<\/a> handset. Now, scroll up and select a person to call.<\/p>\n

Next, simply select the smaller \u201cVoice Call\u201d button instead of Video Call.<\/p>\n

Google Duo will now ring on the recipients\u2019 end. In the voice call, you\u2019ll see a blank blue screen with a couple of buttons for muting your microphone, ending the call, and enabling speakerphone.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s all there is to it for the Google Duo mobile apps. The process is quite similar on a computer in the web browser.<\/p>\n

First, navigate to duo.google.com<\/a> in a browser such as Google Chrome. If you\u2019ve never used Duo on the web, read our guide to set it up.<\/p>\n

Next, choose a person to call from the contacts list.<\/p>\n

Google Duo will now ring on the recipients\u2019 end. While in the call, you have the option to mute your microphone, enter fullscreen mode, and change settings in reference to video and audio sources.<\/p>\n
