He\u2019s keeping paw-sitive.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Famous \u201cdog whisperer\u201d Cesar Millan is back with a new series<\/a> on National Geographic, \u201cBetter Human Better Dog\u201d which largely deals with the influx of dog-adoptions that resulted from the the pandemic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe especially right now after Covid \u2014 where there\u2019s so much confusion and unhapp<\/a>iness and chaos \u2014 that a dog can bring you back to your calmness, to your confidence, to your joy,\u201d Millan, 51, told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cEspecially when some people have lost their homes, have lost jobs, have lost family members. It\u2019s a lot of loss. So that\u2019s why I\u2019m always focusing on, \u2018How do I help the human to stabilize?\u2019 because if the human is not stable, then the dog is going to absorb that energy. And when the dog lives in an unstable environment, he can only show aggression, fear, or avoidance.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Each 45-minute episode of \u201cBetter Human Better Dog,\u201d airing Fridays at 9 p.m., follows cases in which people bring their misbehaving dogs to work with the renowned Millan at his Dog Psychology Center<\/a>, a 45-acre ranch in Santa Clarita, Calif.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery home is going to create a different variety of side effects,\u201d said Millan. \u201cBut aggression is aggression, fear is fear, anxiety is anxiety. Your energy as a family will create something different with a particular dog \u2014 the way [the family] opens the door, the music they listen to. All of that are the variables that will alter a dog\u2019s energy. But a dog is a dog, no matter where you go in the world. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like water. Some things are very universal.\u201d<\/p>\n

The series premiere follows the pet parents of Ducky \u2014 a Yorkie with a large social media following<\/a> who often bites and barks at random \u2014 and the pet parents of Goliath, a pit bull whose owner gets seizures. (Goliath\u2019s aggression issues once made parademics afraid to enter the house.)<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody talks about \u2018Oh, I don\u2019t have time.\u2019 So now they have time, but they don\u2019t have knowledge,\u201d said Millan. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The number-one issue that he\u2019s observed with the new influx of pandemic dog adoptions is working on getting the dog accommodated when their owners must leave the house more frequently.<\/p>\n

\u201c[People] don\u2019t understand the meaning of \u2018allow the dog to follow you, and then ask the dog not to follow you,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cSo, for example, if a dog follows you 50 times throughout the day in your house, make sure he practices not following you 25 times. Why? Because the 25 times that he doesn\u2019t follow you, that\u2019s the training moment for when you have to leave the house.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Otherwise, if the dog is not acclimated, separation anxiety will ensue. \u201cHe\u2019ll become anxious. And the anxiety will trigger that destructive behavior such as barking or destroying the furniture.\u201d<\/p>\n

Millan\u2019s sons, Calvin, 21, and Andre, 25, also appear on \u201cBetter Human Better Dog,\u201d assisting their dad.\u00a0Previously, Andre and Cesar hosted the show \u201cDog Nation,\u201d while Calvin starred in the show \u201cMutt & Stuff\u201d on Nick Jr. (2015-2017).<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s my pack, helping their family,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m a man with a mission. I saw many years ago that my purpose in life is to educate the world about connection, communication, and relationship with a dog. I don\u2019t train dogs, I train humans.\u201d\u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
